FTFA: "She has survived more media assassination attempts than Fidel Castro has survived real ones"

This is about the place where my eyes glazed over, and I realized that this was all wharrgarbl disguised in English eloquence.

Quoting Palin isn't "Character assassination", it's quoting Palin. She was perfectly capable of character suicide, even without the aid of Tina Fey, innumerable memes spawned around her general retardation, and her completely lacking ability to speak in full sentences.

Pocket Ninja [TotalFark] 2008-12-23 07:51:14 AM
The stupidity in this article is almost soul-crushing, but I'll attempt to sum up the whole thing with these sentences pulled from it:

Margaret Thatcher and Sarah Palin have a great deal in common. They are far from identical; they rose in different political systems requiring different skills...[Thatcher] was now on the way to becoming the world-historical figure who today is the gold standard of conservative statesmanship. Mrs. Palin has a long way to go to match this...Even if she gets that chance, she may lack Mrs. Thatcher's depths of courage, firmness and stamina -- we only ever know such things in retrospect.

The basic point? These two people are nothing alike and there is no real basis by which I can judge them. But I'm going to make the comparison anyway, and then make it sound slightly less stupid by saying we need time to see if I'm right.

The only thing Sarah Palin has on Dame Margaret is a nicer rack.

She may have been a neo-fascist, but at least Thatcher had half
a brain.

The real danger here is Democrats becoming as fixated with Palin as the rightwing did with Hillary. Republicans were blindsided by a legitimate candidate (Obama). Don't let this happen to you, Democrats.

No, but I believe she would be quite capable to bit one to death if she had to.
"Had to" would of course mean that she was hungry, and out of babies to eat.

That is an interesting point. McCain may not have beaten Hillary, but it would almost certainly have been a much closer race. I wonder how Hannity feels about the STOP HILLARY EXPRESS now.

Yep. WSJ (Paul Gigot) spent the 2 years leading up to Summer 2008 campaigning against Hillary instead of developing a post-Bush platform. It's possible the WSJ knows Palin won't survive a 2012 primary campaign and they're intentionally keeping the glare off legitimately viable candidates.

i don't necessarily disagree with the article - sarah palin is smart ENOUGH; she's demonstrated an admirable courageous side in butting heads with republicans in alaska AND the oil companies; and she's shown she's a populist at heart by making alaska the most socialist state in the country.

she just needs to adopt a more socially libertarian stance, get more exposure to federal issues and international relations, and tell the bush/cheney neocons to screw and i could see her having a VERY positive transformative effect on the GOP.

Drunk Astronaut 2008-12-23 08:58:33 AM
I didn't know that Maggie Thatcher was a Jebus Freak who had witch-doctors praying over her.

People who think that Palin will adopt a more centrist social stance need to keep in mind that she is a member (ooops, ex-member who still goes) of an extremist church.

The flute is the easiest wind instrument to play moderately well. That's why you see it in the talent portion of beauty pageants; you can play a pretty tune without having to spend four hours a day practicing.

CaptMacMillian: but your lack of reading comprehension skills are obvious

yeah and your lack of basic reasoning skills is obvious. i clearly meant that both palin and obama spent a lot of time in questionable churches so you can't judge them differently (and the only reason obama doesn't still go is because of the media scrutiny). if you didn't understand that then you're stupid. if you did understand that and just wanted to be a twat then you're also stupid. either way - i'm not surprised that you can't seem to figure out fark's apparantly brow-furrowingly complicated comment posting system of clicking "add comment" once.

Cause its about the only instrument that doesn't squeak and honk and annoy you into oblivion when you are learning. Thats why my parents made me take it instead of clarinet or violin.

/Although the guitar is pretty easy to play moderately well too.

senator_mendoza: questionable churches

*snort*

What, like the way water is wet?

This much is true, when Palin speaks of 'tolerance' its within the context of not judging people that are explicit in their intolerance.

Obama, however, has an ethic of working with people on common goals -- with no purity of essence tests -- which manages to piss all kinds of political stripes off.

As I do any time this is brought up, I feel obligated to say that Trinity UCC is not in any sense an "extremist" church. You would know this if you knew anything about it aside from what you've heard on Hannity.
