For having the force of willpower to destroy her own and her running mates campaign? There is nothing to admire about the woman. She is a useless and ignorant fool who was placed in the potential VP slot in a poorly conceived attempt to combat Obama's "change, youth, washington outsider" image and appeal to desperate centrist Hillary voters. The gambit failed for two reasons:

A) Thank FSM, a large number of people where not quite stupid enough to fall for it.

Actually, Teddy was fairly progressive. He greatly expanded the power of the executive, he was a trustbuster who tried to balance power between companies and labor, greatly expanded our country's international role, and was a huge environmentalist. He actually ran on the Progressive ticket the second go around (when he lost, after taking a hiatus), after being elected as a Republican the first time.

Before FDR, Republicans were the progressives, for the most part. Democrats were the conservative, "southern agrarian" (racist) types. Then, the stock market crashed, which was blamed on a Republican (Hoover), and FDR won in '32 as one of the first liberal Dems.

Anyway, you're right, Palin doesn't belong in the same conversation as any of those guys up there, because Palin is just crazy. She doesn't have enough political vision to be anything other than what her crazy version of Jesus tells her to be. I just always get tetchy whenever people hold up Teddy Roosevelt as the "ideal Republican". Maybe he is, but the modern version of the party is nothing like him any more.

I think Palin (and Joe the Plumber) was a test by Rove. He knew that McCan't wouldn't win this election. So he had Palin put at #2 to see if America was dumb enough to fall for it.
