Ah, turntablism. A soon to be forgotten art as the iPod generation kills off vinyl sales once and for all (even for DJs).

These are dark days we live in.

Sick set.

I've seen an apparatus with 2 iPod docking stations and 2 turntables so you can do your thing without records.

Skratch Bastid (not Scratch Bastard) is awesome.

This is a better Skratch Battle set from Skibble Jam 2004. Quality sucks though, but Netflix has Scribble Jam 2004 available to rent. Highly reccomended.

Even if you don't like rap or hip hop culture, just about everyone I've shown it to had to admit they were really impressed by the turntablism & the B-Boy dancing. And it's universally hilarious when people crash & burn during MC battles.

Well if you like turntablism, check this album out. Its the debut album by a L.A. DJ/turntablist named The Gaslamp Killer. Came out this year and I think its the best hip-hop album this year. Its called, I Spit On Your Grave.

I clicked on this scratching vid after seeing the vid from yesterday of Zappa and Vai dueling, and it made the DJ guy look even more pathetic.

Dan Fogelberg? Go ahead and laugh. Dan Fogelberg tunes have gotten a lot of people laid over the years. Good times, good tunes.

I want to cockpunch anyone who uses the word "drop" to mean anything other than somebody accidentally letting go of something they were holding. Or, possibly, taking a shiat.

You know what else was dropped? You, as an infant, on your head.

In what bizarre subhuman species is deliberately scratching records considered a noteworthy activity?
I had no idea what this would be when I clicked on it, and my only conclusion about it at this point is that I can't believe anyone would actually be interested in it.

Yeah, I demand actual musical talent. I'm picky that way.

You're right. Like disco, turntablism is a crucial step in the development of modern music, particularly dance music.

My faith in Fark is restored. I am fortunate enough to have the Low End Theory right down the street from my place, and have been enjoying the Wednesday night residency of the Gaslamp Killer for the past year+. This guy is a motherfarker of the highest order. No Serato, no bullshiat. He plays the hot fire week after week, and is one of a very few DJs these days that actually employ amazing scratching skills.

EXCELLENT recommendation. Go get this.

I'm not a fan of it either, but I'm not going to say it requires no talent. I'm just willing to admit that it ain't for me and move on. If it's so damn easy to do, let's see you try it.

Saying that any genre of music requires absolutely no talent at all is a pretty good sign that you're a close-minded douchebag.

Bombs are dropped. No accidental letting go, there could be an argument for taking a shiat on the victim of a bombing.

Dropping a bomb on someone is a colloquialism for introducing news that is shocking or unexpected.

Later this evolved into something that is shocking and unexpected (in a good way) being "The Bomb" or "Da bomb" for those who might have bitten the tips of their tongues off for no readily apparent reason.

When someone freshly introduces something that is claimed to be "Da Bomb" they can say that they have "dropped" it.

However, that being said I am all in favor of smashing people in the skull with a hammer for repeating shiat because they think it is cute and clever. (IE cockpunch, Paris saying something is "hot", or those Salvation Army pricks saying "Merry Christmas" and ringing a bell for donations.)

eh, it happens in every thread that's not related to Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Metallica, or Iron Maiden.

Then I just remember they listen to music for entertainment and/or nostalgia only - and it puts it all into context.
