FTA:Andrews also said that this could hurt the integrity of the Speed Camera Program. "It will cause potential problems for the Speed Camera Program in terms of the confidence in it," he said.

Good. Fark speed cameras.

He said he is glad someone caught it before it becomes more widespread and he said he hopes that the word get out to the people participating in this that there will be consequences.

After the interview he asked, "So... is this article going to be on the internet?"

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-12-21 03:44:27 PM
It's all fun and games until you get stopped by a real cop, then you're farked.

Rohasman 2008-12-21 03:44:35 PM
Gonna buy a used up beater squad on auction, and make a few photocopies of the local PD's plates. Why? I have absolutly no idea.

I can't believe we even degraded ourselves to the point where we would allow speed and red light cameras.

Tommy Moo 2008-12-21 03:45:11 PM
Yet another reason to get rid of speed and red light cameras.

Ryankenny 2008-12-21 03:45:26 PM
This is why we're losing in Iraq, people.

Good. Destroy the entire idea of any faith in these things. They are unconstitutional and unethical.

It's yet again proved. Machines will lie their ass's off to get a conviction. and the mother farker will not even speak in court. How the heck do you face your accuser??

/So will the cop in court, but at least the right vehicle was ticketed.

Osuwu said. "It is unfortunate that kids have a lot of time on their hands that they can think of doing such a thing."

It takes one heck of a great principal to admit that kids having time to think is unfortunate. God bless him.

Fizpez [TotalFark] 2008-12-21 03:47:31 PM
I'm sorry, but that is just a beautiful thing....

Destroying the faith in these state sponsored ATM's (automated taxing machines) is merely an added benefit.

ukiah 2008-12-21 03:49:23 PM
+1 for the prank. Very inventive.

potierrh 2008-12-21 03:49:56 PM
These kids should be praised for raising money for their local municipalities. Why should the local politicians and the stockholders of the company owning the cameras be at all concerned? It's just more slop for the troughs.

/sarcasm
//unfortunately probably true though

All Apologies 2008-12-21 03:50:10 PM
The number of incidents involving people attacking speed cameras in Phoenix has been ever increasing as the number of cameras have expanded. It warms my heart to see people throwing off government oppression.

Remember folks, you can disable them without destroying government property. Just Burlap sack the cameras, it won't permanently stop them, but if enough cameras are bagged regularly, it will create one hell of a headache for the people who have to keep driving out and fixing the problem.

It's not a prank, officer, it is an act of civil disobedience.

You're still gonna get a ticket.

mister aj 2008-12-21 03:53:16 PM
Nobody has ever proven (in a scientifically rigorous fashion) that high speed or running a red light is dangerous when performed by a competent driver. It's pretty damned obvious that speed cameras and red light cameras are profitable though ... which wins out?

import silvia 2008-12-21 03:53:48 PM
OR, we could just encourage the members of society who already possess mischievous criminal leanings (male teenagers) to torch them. Their gonna do stupid destructive stuff anyways, might as well put it to good use.

/+1 for the prank, brilliant!

Great. I have no faith whatsoever that states are going to do away with the cameras. Government never gets rid of easy ways to pump up income and stick it to the taxpayer.

They'll probably respond with some legislation that does nothing but makes it seem they're doing something about this. Like heavily increased fines and possible jail time for those caught doing it.

Of course the fact that someone can pull this off in less than 5 minutes (tape on fake plate, speed through camera, pull over and remove fake plate) will fail to make any difference.

Fallguyx 2008-12-21 03:55:42 PM
pure genius.

makes me kinda wish I lived in a place where they use the cameras just to do this.

Oldiron_79 2008-12-21 03:57:08 PM
HERO. I hope enough people do this to kill the red light cameras.

I've personally witnessed many collisions where someone rear ended someone else because the person in front panic braked because of red light camera.

Rodeodoc: 5. Get caught with the fake license plate.

6. Officer fails to understand your sense of humor.

7. Visit your local PMITA jailhouse.

1. Create copy of "enemies" plate

2. Affix copy plate over actual plate on your car one block before camera enforecement area

3. Burn through speed/red light camera

4. Stop at the end of the block, remove copied plate, and skip steps 5-7.

8. Profit?

Did TFA say how they got caught? I think I missed it.

There's the problem with your statement. As far as I can tell, I'm the ONLY competent driver out there.

mister aj: Nobody has ever proven (in a scientifically rigorous fashion) that high speed or running a red light is dangerous when performed by a competent driver. It's pretty damned obvious that speed cameras and red light cameras are profitable though ... which wins out?

Well, these are teenagers, so the chances of them being competent drivers are minimal.

That said, I hate those cameras like I hate shiat, so anything that makes them useless is a plus in my book.

He said he is glad someone caught it before it becomes more widespread and he said he hopes that the word get out to the people participating in this that there will be consequences.

Yes, there are clearly consequences. Innocent people are getting tickets. And if the county doesn't have enough sheriff's deputies (as is often the case in places where these cameras are implemented), then it's probably unlikely that many, if any, offenders will be caught.

I firmly believe that the teenagers behind this prank MUST be caught.

/Then offer 'em jobs at NASA or something

To this and the other commenter:

I've never had an officer check a FRONT license plate. When they pull you over, they use the rear one to call in for a check and so on.

Does anyone have some templates of Missouri plates?

/just asking, is all...

New Fun Prank. Find an enemy. Get said enemy's license plate number. Make a color copy of the license plate. Rent a vehicle the same as victim's. Speed through red light cameras. Fun for the whole family

Yes. Make a plate that has the same # as your asshat city councilman that voted for the cameras. Brilliant.

richiep 2008-12-21 04:04:15 PM
If I heard these kids used the plate numbers of the people that voted to put these cameras out there, they would be my true heroes of the day.

mister aj: Nobody has ever proven (in a scientifically rigorous fashion) that high speed or running a red light is dangerous when performed by a competent driver.

How do you competently run a red light? A competent driver stops at yellow lights. I don't have problem with speeding as speeding can be basically harmless when done where nobody is around (like when you're the only one on the freeway), but those who run red lights are almost always creating a real hazard for others.
