Considering how much flying through Midway completely sucks since they redid the terminals it's kind of nice that Daley's trying to lessen the pain in any small way possible.

/could walk to my parents' house from Midway
//between the revamp and the TSA they've turned a 30min effort into a 3hr one on off-peak days :(

I hear they have a great deal on some good seats right now.

Chicago "airports" have no control over legroom or on-time departures.
I'm pretty sure those are in the domain of the airlines themselves and the federally run ATC.

They were going to allow me the honor of landing Chicago today, but they canceled my connection to Seattle, therefor leaving me stuck in the airport with NO sign of getting out anytime this week. No thanks, I'll stay in Manhattan.

/But I WILL get to Seattle by the 25th!!!

For the on time departures, fly SWA. Simple.

My flight is canceled with them this afternoon, so it's not so simple.

I wonder if Gus Polinski, the "Polka King" of the Midwest will be there?

My ideas to add to the mix:

1. Tell the dimwitted f*ck monkeys calling themselves the TSA screeners that they know nothing about security, and that they are just there for show. Most of us who care enough to look it up can easily make a weapon out of steel epoxy in the airport bathroom, thank you very much.

2. I don't feel particularly f*cking merry when you've spent $250,000 to decorate your service counter for the holidays but you're charging me to check in a 30lb bag.

3. Kids. Ball gags. We've been over this sh*t before, just make it happen.

They do have some control over the departures: they can have the right personnel in place at the right times to clean, service, and inspect the plane, to get the bags on and off in a timely fashion, and to run the boarding process smoothly (including enforcing the carry-on policies a bit).

They could also give the crews a lift on one of those *&%@#^& beeping carts when they arrive 4,000 gates away from where their next flight departs, but sadly that doesn't seem to happen.

Once again, none of these are areas of direct airport responsibility. The linked article is about the airport operator making the airport itself a more festive environment. Every one of your complaints is an airline issue, not an airport issue.

I fly out of Chicago during the holidays all the time. If you're angry, frustrated or flabbergasted that Daley would put the money up to do this kind of thing then you're probably angry, frustrated or flabbergasted when you fly in general.

It's relatively cheap, makes the airports a lot less boring (especially for kids), and spreads some positive feeling. Think of it as an extension of the Chicago Park District, cause that might actually be where the acts are coming from.

Snakeophelia [TotalFark] 2008-12-21 05:00:00 PM
I flew out of Philly yesterday, and there were folks and crew member stranded there from the whole Chicago mess. What a pain. I only had to get to South Carolina (at the last minute - for a funeral, not Xmas) and there were delays and multiple gate changes even for those flights.

Pilate 2008-12-21 05:00:28 PM
I'll be flying through O'Hare on Tuesday. Hope to god there's no winter storm at that time. Will be flying back through there on the 29th....again, I really hope there's no winter storm. I can deal with the crowds and stupid people wandering around like aimless zombies...but I HATE having to stay overnight and catching a flight the next morning.

They could, at least, provide smokers with a place to smoke.

Is it just me or do the security screeners at airports these days look more like terrorists than the passengers?

You can call me an a-hole if you want, but I honestly think it is a joke that these $7.00 per hour rent a cops are put in charge of protecting us.

Plastic toy handcuffs are a risk? That glorified mall security guard could not identify a real risk if it showed up with a red tag reading "Farking deadly risk" on it.

Do yourself a favor this holiday season: stay home or drive. Don't give your money to these idiots.

/OK...I feel better now.

I flew through O'Hare today. I wish ORD would spend less time on live music, and more time sorting bags. My bags are still lost, floating around Chicago somewhere. Maybe it was the tight connection (2.5 hour layover), or maybe it was just that it was too cold for people to do their jobs (fark everyone at United), or maybe it was because they figured, hey, that dolt paid us $30 just to take his bags, how much do you think he'll pay to get them back?

When I get back home I'm disputing the charge with my credit card company.

bnthrdntht: They could, at least, provide smokers with a place to smoke.

Where local law allows, they do. An airport tenant operating a bar in an indoor smoking section of an airport sells a lot of very profitable beer and liquor. No airport operator would willingly tell his or her customers to go outside to smoke. It's just not legal to accommodate them indoors many places anymore.

Don't forget Terminal 4. O'Hare never has a Terminal 4 when you need one!

No dude, that's just ORD United. They lose an awful lot of bags.
