If you're in Windsor, Ontario, but would rather be in Detroit, which direction should you head?

To the closest mental hospital.

Alaskan VP candidates (as opposed to candidates who are not Alaskan). That wasn't even witty and about as boring as this stupid farking quiz.

"Sarah Palin for a minute and say I don't believe for a second that she didn't know Africa was a continent"

The Chron writer does know that was completely made up by a comedian posing as a McCain aide.

Popped in to say that #3 was a trick question. Pleased to see I was beaten to it.

Yeah, that was debunked AFTER the election, like so many other false Palin stories.

Doesn't seem to stop them though.

That's me. I couldn't and wouldn't want to. Who the hell needs geography when you have the internets and GPS'

Plus these questions seem to consist of World History, Geography, and General Knowledge, like I'm on a game show.

47. What, officially, is the difference between a town and a city, and between a village and a hamlet?

To which I answered both "Who the fark cares" and "Hamlet is a play written by Shakespeare, asshat"

36. Which state leads the nation in toxic Superfund sites?

A village is a place where people live and a Hamlet is a Ham Lettuce and Tomato sandwich.

That was easy, give me another one.

Gah huh...you're as funny as you are intellectual, subtard.

Are you referring to Tina Fey saying she could see Russia from her house or the bullshiat lie about Palin not knowing that Africa was a continent?

Which one dumbass-(D)?

Wyoming, Colorado and I believe both of the Dakotas as well as Saskatchewan CA have borders which meet a right angles and thus by one legitimate definition are rectilinear and thus at least in that reference frame, rectangles.

oldsbone [TotalFark] 2008-12-21 01:38:06 PM
For the record, I got 18 1/2. I got that Rekjavik is the northernmost capital, but I guessed Johannesburg for the southernmost, so, since I'm scoring myself, I gave myself a half point. I didn't even attempt to mess with the "What 11 nations are crossed by the equator?" one. Oh, and I gave myself a point for saying Timbuktu was in Africa, again, because I'm scoring myself and I can do whatever I want.

/37%-a nice, solid "F." And I'm teaching your children.
//Not geography, thankfully.

elrond 2008-12-21 01:38:28 PM
I'm pretty damn good at geography, and I did pretty poorly on that test, getting just over 1/2 right. It's a good test, but I'm willing to bet Obama and Palin would do about as well as the other. Biden would probably do worse. McCain? I have no idea, he's pretty well traveled...he'd probably do the best.

Still, it's hardly an indication of intelligence, more an indication of ability to retain information or engage in deductive reasoning.

If you look closely at the borders of Colorado and Wyoming, there are places where they deviate from a given latitude or longitude. Look at the border between Colorado and Utah, about 1/4 of the way north of the wouth border, and at the border between Wyoming and Montana in the Yellowstone area. Even if the four corners are 90 degrees, the boundaries are still not straight lines (even ignoring the curvature of the Earth.)

Lines of longitude are not parallel. And lines of latitude are not straight. If you distort the map, you can get them to look rectangular, but that don't count!

I agree with the point you're making.

Certainly the incoherent rambling nonsense she answered questions with whenever she was interviewed by anything except a fox straight man setting up RNC talking points was the reason to doubt her IQ not those unfair claims and attributions.

Not quite. Check out what the NY Times has to say about this:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/13/arts/television/13hoax.html?_r=2&hp&o ref=slogi n

The pranksters behind Eisenstadt acknowledge that he was not, through them, the anonymous source of the Palin leak. He just claimed falsely that he was the leaker--and they say they have no reason to cast doubt on the original story. For its part, Fox News Channel continues to stand behind its story.

So Eisenstadt claiming to be the leak is the hoax, not the Africa/continent story itself. That's not to say that the "anonymous source" is to be believed, but this story is still unverified one way or the other.

I'm a geography trivia buff, and I scored 40/50.

Nonetheless, when I came here to read comments, I was sure there would be plenty of "I got 49 right and I wuz robbed on the other one!". I was very surprised to see posts admitting abject defeat.

It was not a boring quiz. It was actually quite good and made me think. A good trivia quiz has questions that you can either puzzle through in your head or are lodged deep in your mind and need coaxing to surface. This was one of those. I give it a 9/10.

/I hate trivia questions like "Approximately how many cubic meters of salt are in the Pacific ocean?" When I see questions like that, I usually start punching people in the face.
//Obama would smoke Palin on this test. Travel helps inform about geography. Obama is well-traveled. Palin is a provincial retard.

jbrooks544 2008-12-21 01:55:55 PM
I call BULLSHIAT.

This isn't a test of one's geographical knowledge.

This is B.S. Trivia.

Trivia: insignificant trifles of little importance, especially items of unimportant information.

This test is like saying your knowledge of history is slim, if you don't know Lincoln's birthdate, for example.

the_foo 2008-12-21 01:56:31 PM
If Republicans want to have any credibility, they need to stop pretending Sarah Palin isn't an idiot. Sure, it's been exaggerated, but the woman couldn't even name a single publication that she reads. How hard is that? Sure, Tina Fey gets credit for "I can see Russia from my house", but the reason it's so widespread is that what Palin actually said *is* just as dumb-- that simply being near Russia somehow counts as foreign policy experience. And that wasn't just a one-timer. They tried to defend that remark for at least several days.

And I don't want to hear anyone talk about how 'tough' Katie Couric's interview was. Don't be such a pussy, I've seen tougher parent-teacher conferences. Even in the debate, where she managed not to sound like a *total* jackass, she didn't actually manage to answer any of the questions, she just went through her talking points.

Uh... right. Is that open wound at the moron that you're supporting needing more salt?

You can't "debunk" something that never had proof for it in the first place. All it took was half a brain to realize that the gaffe wasn't her.

Now, on the other hand, your moron did say that the fact that Alaska was so close to Russia gave her foreign policy experience. You can't shuck that one off so easily.

Probably the President-elect who thinks there are 58 states.

lazymojo 2008-12-21 01:59:52 PM
OK, fine. For the record Palin DID know that Africa is a continent. People make a big deal about this, as if this relatively minor error about her proves she's not a complete idiot, and was totally qualified to be Vice President...

Rodeodoc 2008-12-21 01:59:52 PM
Hey Subby. Thanks for your retarded political comments. Maybe the test isn't suitable for the Democratic Vice President-elect either, who thought that during the 30's financial collapse, FDR went on TV to calmly address the citizens. You're as big a Farktard as he is.
