Sounds like a good idea. Hopefully it'll be something good and not just cosmetic changes. I'll wait and see what is proposed and how much it's going to cost before I make my decision though.

Yes, the middle class needs some help. Wages have been fairly flat for the last 10-15 years.

Interesting line in the article in light of recent events:

George H.W. Bush, while serving as Ronald Reagan's vice president, oversaw a task force charged with reducing government regulation.

BTW, getting Americans back on their feet and sound financially is a stupid, busy work idea. Shouldn't he be off huddling in a corner letting oil companies right our energy policies or stretching the limits of logic to redefine the Geneva Conventions as "quaint." These guys are gonna be loosers.

Good headline. Knowing this was the politics tab, I was pretty sure from the headline this would be about Biden.

I may disagree with you on some issues subby, but I think this was a good headline.

Does anyone remember when we all thought it weird that Dick Cheney, in charge of finding W's VP, chose himself? That's when the national nightmare started.

I knew it would be about Biden as well. Just think the article doesn't quite match the headline.

As long as they don't allow him to speak in public very much, he'll do just fine.

Really? I was really hoping this would be a W article, given the one the other day about all the horrifying last minute mutually assured destruction measures he's putting into action.

Because Biden was really looking out for the middle class when he helped spearhead the new bankruptcy laws into affect under the voters' radar.

"I said I want a commitment from you that in every important decision you'll make, every critical decision, economic and political as well as foreign policy, I'll get to be in the room," Biden said.

It would take a typhoon, earthquake, volcanic eruption and the Lions winning a superbowl to stop Biden from offering up his two cents.

Hopefully now that he's not a Senator from Delaware where most of the companies are located he'll pull his head out and do what's right. Although it is his fault Republicons in committee voted out some of the Amendments to limit what could be done to the elderly, those serving in Armed Forces overseas and those behind because of medical problems. But I'm sure you knew that and were just about to point out what Republicons could do as well.

Let me guess, you want to be poor or you're telling us that you're rich.

Good God, you guys really will do anything you possibly can to ruin your lives, as long as you believe it will be bad for them liberals.

Smart.

Please don't tell me you actually think that Sen. Biden could actually help. The only thing he is good at is producing copious amounts of warm air.

It'll keep Biden busy, make him feel important and generally keep him out of Obama's hair -- which is all it really needs to accomplish.

I give Obama an 8/10 on this plan.

Thrag 2008-12-21 04:15:50 PM
This is just crazy. The VP should not have a task like this! The VP is supposed to set up his own intelligence vetting apparatus to make sure that false evidence is pushed forward and actual facts are hidden to get us into foreign wars! Middle class! Bah! He should be out there cherry picking and manufacturing intelligence like the VP is supposed to do! How else are we going to get into costly wars so companies that the VP is a major stockholder in can get no bid military contracts? Next you'll tell me this new guy doesn't even have conflicting financial interests in defense contractors.

It will be nice having a vice president who spends his time trying to improve people's lives instead of torturing, starting wars, and shooting people in the face.

Sorry the "lesser of two evils" crap doesn't work with neocons like you. Nice try.

Kudos for admitting you voted for that f*ck, but you get penalties from trying to distance yourself from him.

And I know you're going to respond with WHAARGARBL, just slapping you around 'cause you're more obnoxious than usual in these threads and deserve it.

Yes, the middle class needs some help. Wages have been fairly flat for the last 10-15 years.

upload.wikimedia.org

Middle class is typically defined as salaried professionals with some form of tertiary degree; the class between blue collar hourly workers and the landed wealthy who typically have no need to work.
If you assume that a married middle class couple will easily pull in 70-90K/year combined (and that's assuming $35-45K apiece... hardly wealthy, the green "80th Percentile" line on that graph closely mirrors this socioeconomic class.

The challenge is that there is a cultural expectation of "middle class." My wife and I are in our mid-20's and make just shy of $100K together, and while that would appear to put us around the 80-90th percentile in income, we don't have the life-accessory-jewelry that people expect. We also don't have credit card debt that people expect.

That said, without mortgaging one's very life, I don't know how a family can survive on the incomes that this chart suggests are the norm in the US.
