plus, we have natural black squirrels, and we've breed selected for 'Russian Blue' cats, so why can't there be a freak mutant purple squirrel?

I know people who would brake for a black squirrel but not for a gray one. I bet if he did have baby purple squirrels they'd be favored for a few generations by the groundskeepers enough to make it an advantage.

Ever had a squirrel in a live animal trap? They're fast, really, really fast. I have food color tagged some of the critters that I've caught in my attic, just to see if they have come back, but the dye jobs on squirrels have always been more of the "spray and pray" type. Opossums, however, once you get ahold of 'em, you can do pretty much whatever you want to 'em..

Oh, don't do that. It doesn't have the effect you'd think. My one white-and-tabby got into some Kool-Aid once and he loved it. Actually rolled in the stuff like it was catnip and licked at it until his fur had these long, red streaks in it. We came home and it looked like the gray one had gone crazy and attacked the white one 'Kill Bill'-style. And it never comes out! We eventually just got some more Kool-Aid and made him pink-and-tabby for a little while so he wouldn't startle the neighbors or get us arrested. It was pretty cool to watch the white fur grow out, and the one little neighbor girl still demands to know what happened to our 'Barbie cat.'

So, yeah, the ex would probably just find it cute and the cat would just find it tasty. I wouldn't bother.

That effect seems to be real with white squirrels. Around humans they breed out of proportion to their ability to survive in the wild. Humans say "oh cute, have a peanut." Hawks say "ooh shiny let's do lunch."

3. Turn him loose.

That about get it?

Well, maybe he got a hold of two printer toner things to end up the color he was. They said that at first, he looked blue. He could have found the blue one first, and later ended up messing with the red/magenta one. That would make purple.
