Some homeless people in Italy will be savoring beluga caviar this Christmas

Quality stuff...better than the caviar the homeless are accustomed to:

icky, smelly fish eggs

What do David Beckham and a Rolex watch have in common?

They both come in a posh box

Here in Las Vegas, the casinos supply the homeless shelters with meals.
I see your fish eggs and raise you a roast piglet.

So someone fill me in? Does this stuff actually taste good? What does it taste like?

Caviar is fish eggs. Tastes about what you'd expect it to.

salty crunchy, not really fishy. A cracker or blini, some sour cream, a dollop of Sevruga or Beluga. Mmmm. Too expensive lately. Looking forward to the American caviar industry to take off.

that is so weird, the guy who sold me my rolex said they were always wrapped in newspaper

They made the homeless people an offer they couldn't refuse.

But over here in America, the homeless are here to amuse us, like they were a clown.

Some people take helping the homeless very seriously!

If one were to see fish eggs in the water, they would generally not scoop some up and eat them.

Put it in a fancy little jar with a big price tag and it's suddenly high class.

/fish eggs

88 pounds of cavier to be given to the homeless. Wow, I'd hate to be a street sweeper that night...

This is one of those foods I want to try, but I'm just too cheap. I'm sure with the right amount of ketchup they would taste most excellent.

If you stay away from beluga and that other expensive shiat, caviar can actually be fairly inexpensive, and a great dip/garnish for parties.

I don't like caviar straight up most of the time, but I love taramosalata. It's a greek caviar spread that's freaking fantastic on crackers or melba toast, and can be had for $4-6 a jar at some grocery stores.

Salmon roe is very inexpensive, but damn to I love a good quality beluga or sevruga.

That said, I wonder if auctioning it off for some ungodly amount and then donating the proceed to the carities would have been a better use.

Do you feel that Italian families allow for individuality?

DamionAG [TotalFark] 2008-12-20 09:51:15 PM
They are giving away 10 pounds in 82 dinners? So if I want some I just gotta go buy some from some homeless guy in Italy on Christmas eve? I wonder how many actually eat it rather than pocket it and sell it later that night.

the homeless would probably prefer cake to fish eggs

I was Marie Antoinette for Halloween.

I heard they pave the streets in Russia with caviar.

You don't travel much, huh, subby?

I was about to deride smitty for not using the Asinine tag, but actually what Italy did made perfect sense.

Italy is an odd country. The streets aren't clean but the people are always dressed to the nines

/I'm speaking pretty much about the Florence area
//Venice and Milan can suck it

I buy flying fish roe from the Asian food shops. It's cheap and works for me.

I went to collect canned goods for the Red Cross once, not too long after Katrina and a rich, batty lady gave me about four pounds of canned caviar. I'm not sure which of us was more out of touch.

MikoSquiz 2008-12-22 04:06:48 AM
In Russia, crayfish and lobster are things impoverished drunks eat from a corner stand at 2am.

Which is only right, given that the things are pretty gross. Like a mystery meat hot dog.
