If you start random drug-testing of teachers, you're going to find yourself without teachers REALLY fast. Teachers need an escape at night from dealing with your little shiats all day.

Even school boards -- the most retarded people among us who can still achieve a driver's license -- know this.

WTF is going on in Hawaii?

Deadhouseplants [TotalFark] 2008-12-20 01:50:56 PM
Sweet, go clean for a few months, take a piss test, get a raise, and now you have more money to buy even more drugs. Maybe enough for some of the hotter female students, and have a drug-filler orgy. Awesome.

How about pay raises for proficiency and competence?

we *should* randomly test teachers. we should also randomly test police, elected officials (no exceptions/no excuses) and corporate officers of private companies. Anyone with a license to practies law should also have to be tested for illegal drugs.

If we're going to be serious about curbing illegal drug use, then let's really do it. Let's purge all illegal drugs from this country. No exceptions. No more half measures. Quit farking around already and DO IT.

There are a LOT of teachers out there who just can't deal with what we have to deal with anymore. My district has been labeled as failing under NCLB, because we all know that when kids fail, it's the fault of the teachers. Not parents, not society, not socio-economic status. It's our fault. We're now being taken over by a "non-profit" which, ironically, has a lot of money, called WestEd. The things they are demanding from the Reading teachers is just ungodly. I saw a colleague and very good friend of mine break down in tears yesterday in our staff meeting because of the new demands. She's a 25-year veteran in Education, and she is overwhelmed.

A lot of people are leaving this profession. We just can't take it anymore.

/no drugs (my liver, kidneys, and pancreas shut down in February, and by random miracle started up again)
//no alcohol for the same reason. And FARK Tylenol and Effexor.

So if someone decides to smoke pot off duty, that's anyone else's business but their own? If I go to a place where it's legal, and bring those metabolites home with me, I should get fired? Just sayin.

NCLB is a farce. I'm waiting for the pendulum to swing where that's concerned.

Upon checking your profile, I see we have another commonality: we're both music teachers. Groovy.

Sorry about your organ failure (I bet there's a Hallmark card for that), but congratulations on them, um, starting up again.

Our school system made the decision to embrace a 'zero tolerance' policy towards illegal drug use. If a kid takes an aspirin, he could end up getting expelled. If we're serious about illegal drug use, then I very strongly support 'zero tolerance' drug policies on educators as well as kids. If you're going to crack down on the kids, you *must* crack down on the teachers and administrators as well. Otherwise you send mixed messages. All or nothing - no exceptions. Randomly test *everyone* in the school system. Everyone. From the janitors, past the kids and right on up to the principal. Everyone in that school building could be forced to pee in a cup at any time. No exceptions.

I'm surprised this isn't done everywhere. Do we really want meth addicts corrupting our children in the classroom? If they don't have anything to hide, then the teachers should be okay with the testing. It's that simple.

/druggies can always go to Oregon

gilla 2008-12-20 04:00:55 PM
Why? shouldn't that money be put to better use, say, I don't know better school equipment? If teachers are doing anything than and you can't tell without a drug test than it doesn't matter. Its easy to spot a meth or crack addict.

He doesn't support it. But if you're going to target one group, target them all. No more double standards; let the people who make the shiatty rules be subject to them as well.

I don't much care what the union wants- the current payscale model is antiquated and serves job security over competence. This, to my mind, is not in the best interests of the kids.

Eh, I'm about as anti-illegal drugs as I think a reasonable person gets. But I still respect a person's right to privacy. I don't think the solution is to go the way you suggest. I think zero tolerance on kids is the problem.

As long as it is done privately, off school grounds and away from school events, I don't see it as a problem. And, of course, as long as it isn't impacting their work.

And, just as anecdotal evidence, the people I knew growing up with the drug problems were the ones with very strict parents. My mom made it clear to me as soon as I was in middle school that if I ever wanted anything she would get it for me and make sure I was safe. I never had an interest in drugs.

What if we legalized all drugs and taxed them? Didn't they legalize booze during the depression so they could be taxed?

the Board of Education has refused to spend money for drug testing, at $35 per teacher, because its members say those dollars would be better used in the classroom.

What's $35 gonna buy for a classroom?

Kanawha county is fighting over the same thing minus the raise part.

Either all or non of the school employes should be tested and just the added cost of doing the testing is keeping this from passing asides from the few people standing up for their rights.

You don't get it. Weaver isn't anti-drug, at least as far as I can tell. He is just suggesting we remove the double standards that we have when it comes to this. Serious about banning drugs? Then why not test everyone in government daily? The point is that there are probably shiat-tons of drug users in positions that hypocritically test or prosecute others of a different station (be it students, or whatever).

It makes me sick, it doesn't taste nearly as nice as good weed, and it impairs my judgment/driving ability to a degree I don't find fun.

Alcohol sucks. Beer kicks ass, but just for the taste and the mild feeling 2 or 3 of them gives me.
