Hmmm, I guess they are. I amend my previous statement to allow for olives and olive juice.

I'll stick with queen sized olives and "Shaken not stirred."

Prefers a very Dry Martini. Very, very dry.

Wouldn't it be less messy to just sell them a bracelet?

(Martinis..... yuck)

It's $4 of booze with a $1,000 bracelet in it. Just buy her the bracelet and a bottle of arbour mist and enjoy the ride.

Martinis have gin, vermouth and olives in them. An exception can be made for lemon twist, if that's how you role.

Vodka and fruit juice is a cocktail in a martini glass.

Vodka belongs in a martini as much as it belongs in a margarita.

Wait - WAIT!

What's more hardcore?

Drinking a martini with no fruit juice

Or drinking a pint glass full of 7/8ths vodka and 1/8th cranberry juice?

Best Martini:

Vodka

Olive Juice

Vermouth

3 Olives on a toothpick

Ewww and double Ewwwwwwww.

I like my Whiskey straight and my PBR out of a can.

I also like Vodka Martinis with Olive Juice.shiat, 40ozs are pretty awesome too.

None hold a candle to a joint though.

Nothing wrong with a CR manhattan, but try making one with with Bullieit (it's a bourbon, but the high rye content really makes it work). I can't suggest leaving off the bitters, and I prefer mine perfect.

Well, it looks like it's a $496 bracelet, $4 in drink and $500 donation. probably not deductible except by the bar.

Either way, you're putting something in her drink to try to get her in bed.

No no no! Vodka doesn't belong in a martini. Martinis are made with gin. If I take away the olive or lemon twist from a martini and I replace it with a cocktail onion I have a gibson. Why is it if I change the spirit we still call it a martini?

I don't really get the olive either. It adds a salty quality that I don't think really should be in the drink. But I'll let that slide.

Personally, I think the drink should be made with gin, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters with a lemon twist. I feel that this is probably the original recipe and that this combination provides a wonderfully balanced drink.

/No arguments about the joint

Do you pour six jiggers of gin, and drink it while staring at a picture of Lorenzo Schwartz?

It's been years since I had a martini, but I drink mine with vodka. I had a bad episode with gin and tonics back in the day and the smell of gin makes my stomach churn. Even thinking about make me want to barf. Vodka martinis for me w/ two olives.

When I make a martini, I don't even pretend to acknowledge vermouth. There is no vermouth anywhere near my gin. There is no vermouth within a 1-block walk of my gin. I base my gin purchases on their proximity to vermouth in the store; preferably, I want a gin that hasn't been within 1000 feet of a vermouth. When drinking my martini, I face AWAY from Europe, on the off chance that any vermouth happens to float across the pond and into my glass.

Dry gin and olives. Maybe a splash of olive brine. That's what you can have in a martini. Anything else is not a martini. Put down the vodka.

Huh? Never heard that one before. Where are you from :)

Daddy's Big Pink Man-Squirrel 2008-12-20 05:37:32 PM
That's exactly how I make a martini, except I use brimstone instead of cranberry juice and saltpeter instead of olives, and I replace the lime juice with charcoal.

/a drink is defined by its ingredients
//change them, it's not the same damn drink
///lawn, onion, lumbago, etc.

buzzvert [TotalFark] 2008-12-20 05:37:45 PM
I like three ounces of gin in a styrofoam cup. Swirl it around until the cup starts to melt, and toss it down while chewing a grape you found under the refrigerator.

Now THAT'S a proper martini.

It bruises gin - it doesn't do anything to a vodka martini.

/vodka martini, dry, twist of lemon, shaken
//shaking a gin martini is sacrilege
