Fark needs a 'Hero' tag with a Canadian flag background.

Leave it to the Canadians to not have the ability to come up with an original idea.

bigpeeler: Leave it to the Canadians to not have the ability to come up with an original idea.

Or in this case, a useful idea. I doubt the Iraqis will care how many shoes are thrown in the guy's honor; and in case Canada didn't get the news, we will soon have a President committed to leaving Iraq.

Who throws a shoe? Really.

I preferred when we just gave Bush the finger as he was driven through Ottawa to go to some meeting or other. That was a fun day.

Don't be mean to Americans. Not all of them voted for Bush.

You kooky Candyarses Canadians. I'm beginning to believe all that hot air from our Northern neighbor might be the root cause of global warming.

I don't think Canada has 'Republicans'. Of course, the way things are going right now the US might not have them for much longer either.

I was wondering. how much of the decline of the Republican party in the next ten years will also be age-related? Judging from the conventions, the Republicans looked like they just want more 'Matlock'. Where is the young Republican blood?

Oh and look at this. Who knew?

canadian republicans

To my Canadian friends,

If Bush won't listen to his own countrymen, what makes you think he'll listen to you?

BoozePenguin 2008-12-20 01:58:17 PM
stupid shiat.

bobbette [TotalFark] 2008-12-20 02:04:49 PM
OK, I protest things regularly and even I think this is dumb.

Not because of the concept but because they're doing it wrong:

The Montreal protest is slated to begin at the U.S. consulate and end at a downtown Canadian Forces recruiting station,

FAIL. We're already leaving Afghanistan.

If the organizers wanted to make this protest larger than a dozen Iraqi immigrants, they should have created a giant papier-maché puppet of Bush with a bullseye on his forehead, closed off a square, and invited people to aim shoes at the target. Or even better, created a giant catapult to match the giant Bush and get people to catapult a big papier-maché shoe. The element of actually-doing-something-hilarious.

Make it totally awesome and don't make it about being dicks to the military, which automatically subtracts 3/4 of your potential attendees because people here actually like the military and know that it's not their fault that they're still in Afghanistan, it's the politicians' fault.

Unfortunately, the campus Republicans are the most noisome of the bunch... they just didn't have much representation at the convention.

That's so cute, Canadians think they are important.

It's always interesting when a country defines it's identity in opposition to larger neighbor.

They can toss shoes at us. If they promise to stop wearing speedo's on our beaches.

we will soon have a President committed to leaving Iraq.

No, we won't. He's implied that frequently (to trick foolish progressives into voting for him), but he plans on keeping the US military there to protect American interests, hunt terrorists, and prop up the Iraqi government... which is exactly what they're doing now.

RanDomino 2008-12-20 02:12:10 PM
rather, he won't.

Thing a: an apostrophe does not mean "Watch out! Here comes an S!".

Thing b: I have absolutely no problem with a small fraction of Canadians wearing speedos on any beach. If you make an exception for hotness, though, I like your idea.

Oh look, the aieeeee!-rabs are mooning us. How cute.

And just like the Canadians to bring shoes to a gunfight.

Canada, where the towering Zoloft Mountains tumble down into Pristiq bays. Canada, the home to the last remaining Lexapro Indians, weavers of delicate yet sturdy baskets displaying designs dating back to the Paxil era.

those darn politicians forced them to join the military? of course, military recruiters are forced to be lying, manipulative bastards, so the real solution is the abolition of nation-states; but individual soldiers still have the responsibility to get themselves out, disobey, and not enlist in the first place (if you actually think armies do more good than harm: I laugh at you).

This is a good thing.

Thirty plus years from now, when my grandkids read in their school history books about what a great president Bush Jr. was, I'll be able to think back and go, "Hmm. Bush... I remember Canucks. Ah! No, that's the guy people wanted to throw shoes at."

Weren't you that guy who in high school that had the record for most time spent in the penalty box topped with being the only person ever to take off their skate and try to stab somebody with it?

As long as it's not the pelting of random American tourists, go for it.

Funny Canadians, they actually think that somebody is going to listen to them. I guess living next door to the world's only super power somehow makes them think that they have some importance.

The queen is not going to be happy!!!

you are assuming that the schools are going to buy new books sometime in the next thirty years - not likely.

I had very trying rookie season, what with the litigation, the notoriety, and my subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept me. :)

Just because it's amusing.

www.buckfush.com

Anyway, I like Canada, am a huge hockey fan, and loves me some Tim Hortons coffee. But seriously, these protests just seem kind of pointless. Maybe they would have made more sense before the US voted in a landslide for a candidate with the mandate to get us out of Iraq and end Bush's unilateralism in foreign policy.
