Why do the equal right supporters of State laws want the State to recognize a union of man and woman before God holding a sacrificial relationship that is in effect for life and only able to dissolve upon death of one member?

Marriage, historically, has been the union of one man and one (or many women) woman. To change the definition to include same-sex will change the family structure, line of succession and future generations.

I understand why the State got involved but at this point, it'd be better if the State stayed out of Marriage altogether. I'll give up any tax breaks to make it happen.

If it's up to the CA Supreme Court, whatever the CA state constitution supports should win. But that won't stop dishonest little turds like Skinnyhead and NYZooMan from screaming about the will of the people.

NYZooMan: Democracy...um yeah, later for that.

I'm ready for my close up, Mr. John Stuart Mill.

Protection, therefore, against the tyranny of the magistrate is not enough; there needs protection also against the tyranny of the prevailing opinion and feeling, against the tendency of society to impose, by other means than civil penalties, its own ideas and practices as rules of conduct on those who dissent from them; to fetter the development and, if possible, prevent the formation of any individuality not in harmony with its ways, and compel all characters to fashion themselves upon the model of its own.

TFA says Californians can marry people of the same sex. It just won't be "recognized," meaning they'll have the same rights as me.

Yeah, then if people want to do their own thing and call it, Islam, what's the problem? Isn't hurting you! It's government co-opting religion.

Interesting that it wasn't "whitey" that voted for the thing... but by all means, keep blaming "him" anyway. No sense in abandoning something that's worked so well for so long.

Maybe the answer is to just make everyone be "legal domestic partners" and leave the marriage shiat to religion? Hey, I seem to remember reading somewhere about the separation of church and state. Why don't we, you know, like do that?

Wellllll, If the constitution now says two very different things like People have the Right to do something, and they don't have the right to do something, something has got to give. And since 8 didn't get the 60% needed to be unquestioned....

Besides, it isn't like they are going to throw out the rest of teh Constitution and have a constitution that is only about gays not marrying.

Is the whole point of requiring marriage be between a man and a woman in order to force men to marry women?

So many have pointed out that it's the idea of men marrying men that freaks out the Prop 8 supporters.

I think this is why they think gay marriage is a threat to their marriages. Must be.

So many of the Prop 8 supporters are the guys who like hanging out with the other guys - at church, of course, plotting their next Christian tactic.

You have no idea. After CT legalized gay marriage, that's all I saw for days on end. Getting cigarettes? Some dude farking a turtle on the register. Going to work? Turtle gang bangs on Main Street. You really don't want to know what I saw at the Zoo and the Aquarium.

It's not about that.

It's about giving homosexuals who view marriage as the ultimate expression of love the privilege of marrying.

A government denying them this privilege is officially declaring them lesser human beings.
