(Stuff) Amusing Kings of Leon say touring with their preacher father taught them all about how to have guiltless sex with the groupies. It's good to be the Kings of Leon   (stuff.co.nz) divider line 25

Man, I saw them open for Radiohead at All Points West, and could not have been more underwhelmed. I couldn't quite figure out how they got the spot - they were totally average in every way.

Hmmm, I saw them open for Pearl Jam and had the exact opposite reaction. I was actually scared that they were going to put on a better show than Pearl Jam, but thankfully they stepped up their game and gave a great performance as well. That was of the few times I have seen an opening act blow me away- another honorable mention goes to Taking Back Sunday.

they've made some decent music, but my inclination is that the majority of their hipster cred comes from their backstory.

One of the more overrated bands out there.

I was there maaaaaaan...

Missed KOL, which I was mostly OK with.

That festival really sucked (the music aside of course).

I keep hearing shades of David Lee Roth from the singer of that band.

I hope that's just my aging ear trying to gain a connection to this new crap, but I doubt it.

Seriously, if your sex is on fire, go to the damn doctor.

honestly, since when is Kings of Leon popular? I've liked them since their first album, but all of a sudden, they sold out two shows here in Philly? I'm not sure why people like them so much. usually people hate my music.

Yeah, Radiohead put on an amazing show as usual, and K'naan was pretty good on stage 2. Other than that, the planning could have been better. At least the weather was nice.
Thomps, what is this about their back story? I knew nothing about them going into the show, other than them being on the ticket with some decent bands.

I still can't figure out what Leon's getting out of this arrangement.

It's just all-around good to be the king.

The English Major [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 11:51:27 PM
I saw them open for U2 back in '05. It was funny, because I think I was one of about five people who knew who the hell they were right away; there was no band introduction.
Normally, I'm so far behind on music it's not funny. This, though, I got a head start on.

Every song of theirs sounds like the theme to some TV show from the WB. Every song.

/this is bad

They have any? I mean they're major now and their last two albums have sucked like hell.

A friend from England once explained to me, "you Americans hate Kings Of Leon because they have a preacher for a dad, they drink a lot, they're southerners, they wear denim, their songs espouse values while not saying much. We Brits love Kings Of Leon because they have a preacher for a dad, they drink a lot, they're southerners, they wear denim, their songs espouse values while not saying much."

I loved their first album.

It was just... raw.

Some good southern fried rock too.

Wasn't impressed by their second album, and haven't really followed them since.

/love that debut album though...

first cd: really fricken cool
newest cd: really fricken pedestrian

Hmm, I don't watch the WB. Is it still on the air? The only song that comes to mind is that stupid whiny "Dawson's Creek" theme...
Man, you must really hate KOL.

First 2 albums were killer, the new one not so much. Also, their live shows back then were so much more fun. It seems like they take themselves a little too seriously these days.

so overrated. meh.

Maybe its just me but I see female Kings of Leon fans as the type who don't shave their legs.

Here's a fun fact,

their dad was really a Klansman, not a preacher.
