What, no Virgin Killer?

The Whitesnake one is awesome, and I want it on a T shirt.

Blues_X [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 03:24:23 PM
To their credit, at least Manowar weren't eyeliner & spandex wearing fatasses.

Sgygus [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 03:24:32 PM
Cannibal Corpse had some great T-shirts too ... I have one with two zombie lesbians eating each other out.

Punk had way more outrageous - none of those can campare to this.

you probably can't post that without getting arrested these days.

This list is useless without Mayhem's 'Dawn of the Black Hearts' cover. The cover features a picture of an ex-member of the band after blowing the top of his head off with a shotgun.

GIS it if you're really interested.

Personally, I think this defined metal album covers.

Yeah, I'm that old ;)

I've never even HEARD of the band "BONED" but laughed my ass off when that appeared on my screen just now. Surely it's parody? No? Really?

/bwahahaha

I came to say this.

...and also, where's the AC?

As always liked this one, and I know my roommate's Christian girlfriend was outraged - OUTRAGED - by it. So I hung it on my door.
A glyph of warding, of sorts.

I'm not looking it up right now, but what about the Pedo one that's on Wikipedia?

Godscrack [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 04:16:25 PM
Not really outrageous, but Jane's Addiction's 'Nothing Shocking' cover art was really exceptional.

steveo 2008-12-19 04:24:44 PM
A lot of people I knew borrowed "Look What The Cat Dragged In" cassettes to make bootleg copies of because, while it did have some good songs on it, none of us really wanted to be seen buying an album with that cover.

/no shiat, right? spike was probably too pussy to post it, since it's potentially kiddie porn in some countries.

//they could've given it an honorable mention and let people find it on their own, at least

Smell the Glove

You should have seen the first cover. It wasn't a glove she was smelling I can tell you that!

Not metal, but still pretty strange:

Scorpions' Virgin Killer cover has been banned in many countries. If that's not outrageous enough to make this list, I call bullshiat on the whole thing.

As someone else said, Spike.com was probably just too pussy to post it. But if you're going to do a list of the most outrageous album covers, how do you leave out the most outrageous of them all and then still pretend your list has merit?

That was the first album that came to my mind when I saw the headline.

King Something [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 05:09:04 PM
In 1983, there was a band that wanted the cover of their debut album to be a picture of a hand reaching out of a toilet, holding a dagger. Management urged them to change the title, lest retailers refuse to carry an album with such an offensive image and title.

The band agreed, their bassist coming up with the idea for the replacement:

And the rest, as they say, is history.

I wouldn't call this list outrageous, more like boring.

Ahh, good old Metal Up Your Ass. I had the t-shirt back in the day. I actually wore it to school and wasn't told to change it.

I'm surprised no Slayer covers made the list.

Dawn of the Black Hearts is a bootleg live album and not officially released by the band.

Here's their MySpace page. (new window)

Very AC/DC sounding. Sounds a little like Jackyl too. The album cover looks like it's right out of the eighties, but it was released in 2004.

Glam metal sure, death metal, not so much.

I'll start the bidding at everything I have.

I think the funniest metal album that I own is the eponymously titled biatch album. My friend gave me a signed copy of it for my birthday. I cherish is to this day and would scan it but it's probably NSFW.

Sometime when I'm properly motivated I'll scan the back artwork, which is equally idiotic.

I actually have that Metallica Metal Up Your Ass t-shirt stored somewhere. The other side had a skeleton in an electric chair. And I think the skeleton actually glowed in the dark.

mfaby 2008-12-19 07:16:23 PM
WHY would any band think that using appalling/lame graphics for a cover is a good idea?

cspariah 2008-12-19 07:17:51 PM
I bought this album solely because of the cover art, knowing nothing of the band or even what type of music they played.

^^ Cannibal Corpse lesbian zombie

cspariah: and from henceforth, you knew the awesome that is Testament. (except for this album they released a few years ago which was a bunch of songs off their first two albums re-recorded .. and totally loses the awesomeness that was back then)

Not sure but I'm willing to bet that it's a collection classic neo-nostalgic crooning in the "Winchester Cathedral" vein.

I knew a guy a couple years ago that wore that shirt all the time. He was a weird Bulgarian if that means anything...
