Slipknot bashing Coldplay for making crappy music is like the ocean bashing a pond for being wet.

I Said: Say what you will about Slipknots music, but they put on a great live show.

It sounds like they're scraping giant metal claws across a chalkboard and the rhythm section sounds like it's amplifying a radio signal emanating from the bottom of a lake on another planet and the lyrics make you weep for our educational system.

But they put on an awesome live show!

Shouldn't this have an ironic tag?

So do hundreds of other bands that play music as opposed to noise. Don't get me wrong, I used to be into noisecore a little (like ATR) but i need at least a semblance of melody, not just a cacaphony on noise.

I love Slipknot and I love Coldplay...suck it music snobs.

EchoDork 2008-12-19 12:34:32 PM
Slipknot... aren't they that band that always has that one horrible track in Guitar Hero?

The one we all play once to pass and never touch again?

Slipknot is horrible. No ones going to listen to your "well, they put on a great live show" comment, because their music is still god awful. The sound of chainsaws butchering kittens is more tolerable than slipknot's crap.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 12:48:18 PM
I agree that Coldplay are a bit self-indulgent, but coming from Slipknot, that criticism loses a bit of its effect.

No, no it does not. Slipknot still sucks, and so do you.

it takes a douche-bag comment by a masked asshole in Slipknot to get FARK to rally around Coldplay. I love it

Color me amazed that the frontman of a metal band that caters directly to really angry teen types would make a comment like that.

It's like asking a WWE wrestler what he thinks of his opponent that night.

And, if by chance he was serious..did he forget that he also fronts Stone Sour... right?

k, just checking, I thought my irony meter had stopped working.

tailormadebassist 2008-12-19 01:27:44 PM
Having tried to listen to Coldplay's new album, I was disappointed. It bored me.

Slipknot's newest album....well...it got me through quite a few days at work. Quite awesome.

And yes, they do put on a hell of a show.

But it was such an eloquent and informed review of the work; I really understand not just WHAT he felt, but exactly WHY he felt it. His word-smithing puts most of us to shame.

Wow, I would imagine that I'd need 10, maybe 15 minutes to learn how to play every part of that song I've never heard. Oooh... what was that next chord? Oh, yeah, open C#5, palm-muted.

And how do they make that neat-o vocal effect? Never mind... patch 001 on the Antares processor, "Telephone." Very original.

Now at least I can say I've heard more than one song by Slipknot.

H31N0US 2008-12-19 01:35:57 PM
Point: he is right, Coldplay is self celebratory, derivative crap. They are the Oasis of the new Milennium.

Counterpoint: Slipknot is absolute crap too.

Why does this even matter. They're in completely different genres of music. They both make me want to kill myself, but in different ways. With slipknot I want to blow my brains out with a shotgun like a real man, whereas with Coldplay I feel like sitting in a bathtub and cutting my wrists like a total girl.

Glitchwerks, DIAF. Fark you, buddy.

Anyone that's a fan of the musical God (that's Mr. Lewis to you) and has had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Lewis perform live, is definitely a connoisseur of fine music and has a much better taste & knowledge in music than you. So I'd advise you to take heed of brokenheadstuff's wisdom.

Corey isn't nailing anything on par with Gwyneth Paltrow so something is working for coldplay. Slipknot's guitarist has been with Christina Scabbia for a while though. If you don't know who she is, she's who Amy Lee wishes she was.

Yeah, but then after the show you have to deal with the embarrassment of standing outside the venue waiting for mom to pick you up in her mini-van.

I love Slipknot but I will not pretend they are lyrical masterminds. They have some great songs.

The bowl of dicks comment made me chuckle.

heh, comments like this always make me smile. But not in the way the poster would think. It makes me smile to see someone who hasn't achieved the success of someone else actually criticize their work.

Yeah, you can figure out how to play what Slipknot is playing, good for you... but they have made more money than you ever will in your life time. Go figure.

In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Coldplay can eat my shiat.

Oh really? I could never have anticipated, in all my life and time on Fark, anyone reacting in this manner to my dismissal of Slipknot's music. Oh, woe is me, how will I ever reconcile this oversight?

Please... by your logic, Corey Taylor is busy sh*tting on other peoples' music because he's jealous of their success, as he will never even get a whiff of that level of achievement. Coldplay has sold tens of millions of more albums in less time than Slipknot. How does Taylor have any right to criticize Chris Martin, who has made more money than anyone in Slipknot will in their lifetime? Oh wait, it is because your argument is meaningless.

Obviously all the musicians involved have far exceeded my wildest dreams of rock and roll stardom. I would enjoy being in either band, no doubt, and would likely figure out a way to tolerate wearing a mask if it meant playing loud, fast, raucous tunes to a seriously crazy audience. Good for them, they no doubt love what they do and have plenty of reward for it. But I don't have to respect their musicianship anymore than you have to respect mine.

I just feel that if the songs I've heard are indicative of their overall prowess, then the stones he hurls are made of soft clay.

MFL 2008-12-19 03:27:17 PM
They both suck ass. That is all.

Kliffoth [TotalFark] 2008-12-19 04:11:35 PM
Slipknot has no right criticizing other people's music. Slipknot is a Mallcore musical abortion.

And a bunch of masked jackasses bouncing around on stage is not 'a hell of a show'.
