Moby as a "douchebag"...

Shouldn't that get an "obvious" tag?

Glitchwerks 2008-12-19 11:54:07 AM
I don't think Moby is enough of an asshole to qualify as a douche. Don't you have to be a really big prick to enter douche status?

Moby's more of a whiney, nagging, biatch.

I want to see this movie.

Since Rollins is in this movie, it's sure to be hilariously bad. I'm as big a fan of Hank as anybody out there, but he always picks the good ones...

I happen to like Moby, but the subby missed the boat on the Obvious tag.

"I only have 45 words," admits Moby. "But they are 45 important words. Then I get eaten."

Darn it. Now I have to see the movie.

Moby is in the movie.

How could it not be called "Suck?"

You didn't like "The Chase?" That was a funny movie... though not high cinema by any stretch.

He has to balance out being in Heat somehow.

He was awesome in Heat! Getting his ass kicked by Al Pacino. (I think it was Pacino -- maybe it was one of the other cops). Anyway, it was hilarious.

And Heat is one of the best crime films of all time.

are you sure that's Moby?
Or is it "Not Moby", with the gun?

Prediction:

Rollins gets himself all pumped up to do the role.

Makes an ass of himself.

Hilarity ensues when he re-tells story on spoken word tour, taking no less than 40 minutes.

That sounds about right...and hopefully, he'll come somewhere close to my area when he does, so I can be in attendance!

Does anyone remember which special of his it was where he was talking about his role in Bad Boys 2? I don't remember it exactly, but there was a bit about some SWAT team member or something, that the crew all called "Silverback"

I used to have that recording, but I lost it, and I can't remember for the life of me what it was called.

Henry Rollins is completely overrated, self important, and generally an annoyance.

Moby actually seems like a pretty cool, self-deprecating guy. I don't care for his music, however, even though I'm a fan of the genre.

/or did I reverse them?

Nope, you got it right. But apparently if you look like an ape with tattoos instead of a scrawny bald guy all is forgiven.

When asked if he would care for a drink, Moby said, "Thanks, Vinegar and Water, please."

I'm recusing myself from commenting on Moby's alleged douche bagginess, because I'd hate for him to read my comment here and then decide to kick me off his blog.

And then, where would I be able to regularly comment about his being a douche bag?

Ah, I think people should lay off Moby a bit. I mean, I don't like his music either but he always comes off as having a sense of humour about himself and despite all his lifestyle choices about 1000% less preachy than Bono.
The chick from Rough Trade is in this movie - Carole Pope! None of you Americans will know who she is, but....damn, that's pretty cool!

T.rex 2008-12-19 06:23:38 PM
Moby's music was absolutely revolutionary, completely shaping the direction of music that followed.

The PRIMARY reason that people think its cool to hate on Moby is because Slim Shady dissed him in that one song.

NorCalLos 2008-12-19 07:02:37 PM
I'm not surprised by any of this. Musicians turned actors are ALWAYS method actors.

You've obviously never read any of Moby's political writing. That stuff is toxic.

I like his music, and own a couple of his DVDs. I disagree that his music was revolutionary - I think he has written some great music but it's pretty much where dance/house/techno/etc. was at the time. He was ahead of the curve as far as being willing to sell out to commercial interests, but I'm not going to fault him for that. I want to be rich one day too.

see, i think that he took that genre and turned it into music. I don't consider his music techno. I think he improved upon that genre by giving it melodic hooks, and his nature of producing and including the samples... it was a new way... And its sieved off into how hip-hop, pop, r&b, big beat type music was assembled.

i've never read his writing, except i remember his album talked about him being a vegan. all artists in the world, in fact all people in the world, have views that we won't agree with. One must ulimately judge an artist on his art, not on his beliefs.

We have different opinions on Moby's musical influence, that's cool.

But I do know Moby as more than just an artist... I know him as a political blow-hard who lies, manipulates facts, and is full of a surprising amount of hate towards those who disagree with his world view.

Speaking of judging artists by their work and not their beliefs...

You know who else was an artist?

Wow. Just wow. I'm glad it sounds revolutionary to you. I guess you have a music collection that consists of 5 CD's, with an emphasis on N*Sync.

Moby took that genre and made it into music? Moby has never produced an innovative record in his life, and you're sitting here crediting him for all that? You're either an absolute div or this is some sort of troll. I'm thinking bridge defender.
