Okay, I'll say it.

His solo album wasn't bad.

At the very least, his Bond theme song was one of the best.

His first solo effort was better, but that's likely mostly because it was the band Eleven plus Cornell.

His first solo album was incredible.

Second one...not so much.

Latest one...haven't bothered.

Seriously, somebody doesn't like that first solo album? Great stuff, if you're not expecting Kim's guitars.
I personally dig the pop melodies. I know I'm not metal dude, though.

Now the Timbaland thing makes sense.

I'm about as straight as they come, yet for whatever reason I back in the mid-90's I just couldn't keep my eyes off Chris. I think it was the abs.

I haven't listened to Chris Cornell since Audioslave's first album, which was great.

/then I hated Audioslave, because they sucked after that
/agree that his bond song is still better than the QoS one

Ashtrey 2008-12-17 03:10:53 PM
He's been in and out of so many bands I just have to assume he's an asshole no one can stand working with for more than 3 years.

Kodiak Attack 2008-12-17 03:13:42 PM
I'll have to dig out Euphoria Morning and give it another listen now that my musical tastes have mellowed a bit since it came out in 1999.

I'm glad he got his guitars back and thinking about Soundgarden breaking up almost 12 years ago gives me pause.

/saw them on their last tour in '96 - 12 years ago tomorrow
//won free tickets while sick at home and listening to the radio

marius2 2008-12-17 03:15:32 PM
Euphoria morning has got some great stuff, same with Audioslave, but nothing beats the Soundgarden days. His other solo stuff is good, but EM is the best.

THIS. I thought the Madonna and Sheryl Crow themes were bad, but those two chicks singing the QoS song almost distracted me from the female silhouettes...

/'You know my name' is amongst my top three bond themes, FWIW

This. That first album is a classic. I'm a huge Cornell fan and thought that 2nd album was very boring; can't decide whether Carry On or Ultramega is worse. YNMN is certainly the best song on that album, though, and my favorite Bond theme for sure. His Myspace page has a few songs from the next album. I can get into 'Scream' but 'Long Gone' and 'Ground Zero' have me fearing the rest of the album. I hope he hasn't lost the whole progressive hard rock thing entirely.

He does a cover of "Ave Maria" that obviously gets some airtime this time of the year and it's pretty damn good actually.

Nice to see how biased this story and its readers seem to be. I like the one-sided reporting that assumes that just because he is Chris Cornell he is totally BLAMELESS in the destruction of his own marriage. I'm sure his addictions and well-documented prima donna personality had NOTHING to do with the fact that his divorce has been long and nightmarish! For that matter, I'm sure that his wife has been keeping those guitars for NO REASON other than to make his life hell.

Two sides to every story. Maybe she was a biatch, but it's likely she didn't start out that way.

mofomisfit 2008-12-17 04:10:43 PM
Chris Cornell has the most beautiful voice that makes music that I'm interested in 50% of the time.

/C'mon, Soundgarden was badass man!

As I say whenever a Chris Cornell/Soundgarden thread comes up, Louder Than Love has to be one of the top 3 or 4 albums that came out of that whole scene. Definitely one of my all time favorite albums.

Cornell was one of my musical man-crushes when he was in Soundgarden. I had to hand it to a guy who looked so good and sounded ten times better.

Euphoria Morning is one of my favorite albums. Lush, well produced pop album. Helped to have a great band behind him, in Eleven.

Around that time was probably the height of my hetero man love for Cornell. Got very excited for Audioslave, but quickly began to have diminished expectations. His second solo album was terrible, lifeless, boring. To paraphrase Sick Boy, 'You Know My Name' was a blip on an otherwise downward trajectory.

Hate to say it, but his best music came from when he was drunk, depressed and angry, not sober, jetsetting and a father of toddlers (I know, not really that shocking).

A few tidbits that made me lose respect for him:
-Moneygrubbing -- he apparently wanted more credit for Audioslave songs so he could rake in more royalties.
-He crashed his $100,000 motorcycle. $100,000? For a motorcycle?
-He married some French model.
-This French model bought a $3 million Montana ranch for him as a birthday present.
-He moonlights as a model in Paris.
-He owns a Parisian restaurant.

I know hero worship of some dude who's an awesome singer is shallow and stupid. But to go from one extreme to the other in the span of a decade was really disappointing.

I only heard the horrible single. His other solo album, though, released under his name instead of the nightwatchman appears to be kinda cool if you like his wacky guitar noising. Link (new window)

Aw, crap. A couple months ago he had a separate page with noise compositions at www.myspace.com/tommorello. Now it just links to the nightwatchman page. OK, here's the Guitar Hero version of it at youtube: noise (new window)

Yeah, in this particular case I dunno about that:

Because the threats "are so specific, alarming, and menacing," the Los Angeles Police Department's Threat Management Unit has subsequently launched an investigation into the matter, the petition states.

At the urging of authorities, the family moved to a new residence, purchased under a different name. But due to an "unethical breach by her attorney," the petition claims, Silver managed to track down Cornell, and the harassment began all over again.

I saw Cornell play on November 3rd and I think his latest album sounds pretty good. His voice was clear as a bell and not like the worn out honkey tonk man vocals he had on Audioslave.

Timbaland produced this last album so it's go some strong pop themes in it. I'd even call a couple of the songs "dance tracks".
