Really I can understand not liking their newer stuff but the worst band ever. I realize you are probably some troll but you need to explain yourself.

Freaky Styley came out in 1985. While there were some good albums out that year there was also alot of crap. Foreigner had a #1 hit for christ's sake.

Thyomorb: Does anyone know what he says between verses?

It isnt a shock that he doesnt have the best lyrics but his voice is a solid instrument and works in the band. There are lots of famous bands that cant write lyrics but are still good. And the fact that he auto tunes his voice on recent albums is better than hearing off key singing over good music. I dont mind that they engineer the vocals to get the best sound they can.

I can understand not liking Kiedis but acting like the band is nothing but solid is just stupid.

But to each his own i suppose.

Gunny, you are a magnificent son of a biatch! Couldn't of said it better myself. Some of my favorite singers/songwriters don't have the greatest voices--the Boss, Petty, Dylan, Zevon.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers were hands down my favorite band through my high school years (1999-2002). I completely ignored that fact that 99% of Kiedis's lyrics make no sense to anyone but him. Californication and Blood Sugar Sex Magik are still really great albums to me, and I have great appreciation for Mother's Milk and Uplift Mofo Party Plan. By the Way was decent, but I do have to say that Stadium Arcadium didn't measure up at all for me. I've come to realize that the band's strength really comes from how solid they are instrumentally. I think they could have worked just as well with Kiedis just blabbering incoherently over the music (which he has been known to do anyway).

That being said, I'm sad to hear that he's battling kidney disease (and that he's 46). Part of me hopes that the band's hiatus is permanent because I don't want them to become one of those aging bands who wouldn't go away. (I hope this hasn't happened already.)

/There is still a RHCP poster hanging above my bed.

They are all amazing musicians and even if you don't like the sound of their music it's easy to recognize that.
Also, I like how they keep trying to do different music and just not remake BSSM 100 times. They didn't go by the AC\DC or KISS forumla.

I hope he gets better. I wonder if this has anything to do with them putting RHCP on hold I guess about a year ago now.

Lyrics isnt the bands strong suit, the music and energy has always been most important. Keidis uses melody and different voices to create a dynamic sound instead of powerful lyrics. Mr. Bungle does the same thing albiet much better.

It is impressive they have managed to stay together over all these years and managed to stay relevant. On top of that they have also managed to make some pretty solid rock for over 20 years.

They arent my favorite band but it gets so much worse when it comes to rock and roll on the radio. Save your hate for bands who deserve it. Or dont hate bands at all, just dont listen.

This is of course all opinion and I can see where people are coming from.

I love the Chili Peppers, I love the Mr. Bungle. I know they hate each other but goddamn, SO much talent in those two bands (well Bungle broke up but still). I couldn't imagine the awesomeness of Mike Patton fronting a band with Flea on bass, Frusciante on guitar, and Chad Smith behind the kit.

I hope he gets well soon so that we can have more opportunities to hear Flea and Fruciante jam. Hate the Chillis or not, those two men are freakin' gods at what they do and to not recognize that you must be either retarded, tone-deaf, or dead. I've been a fan of the band since I was sixteen and first heard Mother's Milk, and other than One Hot Minute I don't think they've had a mis-step since. In fact, By The Way is one of my favourite albums of the 21st Century and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Give to me sweet sacred bliss,
Replace my blood - dialysis.

Definitely one of my top 10 favorite bands. Only saw them once though, back around 2000 (give or take). Later than I would have liked, but they were better than i thought they'd be. Figured they'd just kinda play a selection of songs, hopefully cleanly. But they started with a little group huddle, came out swinging and the energy just escalated the whole show. And this was at a big outdoor amphitheater, not a little club. There was a lot of improvisation, also, which i did not expect. That really impressed me. They are truly very good at what they do.
