Okay, I read the farking article, and I still don't know.

Marcus Aurelius [TotalFark] 2008-12-17 06:34:37 AM
Henry Paulson doled it out to all his Wall Street buddies.

Those bankers don't bribe Congress because they're civic minded, you know.

Half of it as Christmas bonuses for people who tried running their companies into the ground, the rest held back for bonuses/compensation after they actually succeed at running their companies into the ground?

Vacations, spa treatments, and big time Christmas bonuses for the fine folk who ran our country in to the ground.

We would have been better off if the Treasury used the money to build a memorial to George W. Bush. (At least it would have generated some employment and spending.)

/// Could you get a pyramid for $350 Billion?

SpaceyCat [TotalFark] 2008-12-17 08:27:36 AM
I know the other half of the bailout money is supposed to be approved by congress. It's wishful thinking on my part, but I really hope they say no to it because the 1st half of the money was not used appropriately.

Cornwell [TotalFark] 2008-12-17 08:28:37 AM
notmtwain: /// Could you get a pyramid for $350 Billion?

The initial gubmint bid, yes.

The actual construction? Not so much. But then again, the gubmint tends to pay for that too, so why bother with time, budgets and other little details?

Okay, where's the outrage??? People riot in Greece when a kid gets shot AND the cop goes to jail (????); but we just sit here in THIS country, dumb and happy, while Wall Street fat cats RAID OUR GOD-DAMNED TAX REVENUE! WTF!?

Control_this [TotalFark] 2008-12-17 08:52:28 AM
It's OK. We'll just lower taxes to pay for it.

All snark aside, this administration, with complete complicity from Democrats, has been doing basically this since day one.

Remember how we went to war based on lies and then when we got there we hired all of Bush's friends in the defense industry to drive tankers of gasoline to our troops at like 100x the cost?

Or how about when Wolfie had LITERALLY pallets of cash go missing?

The neocon plan has been, from day one, to secure the oil fields in the Middle East, start a perpetual war, and bankrupt the United States so that they can get rid of medicare, social security and any other "entitlement" program.

And they are insanely brazen about doing it too, literally lining up the Enrons, Haliburtons, and AIGs to the trough and letting the big pigs eat all they want from the treasury.

But you know, when some of us complained about war spending, I remember most of you Fark Independents making all kinds of arguments like: those tax dollars go back into the economy! and Support the troops!

Blah blah...

You're all a bunch of hypocrites.

Umm...I'm thinking his point was that if anyone disagreed with how the war was being handled, they were attacked as hating the troops and being unpatriotic. Which is ironic, because the large majority of those criticizing the war didn't want our troops to needlessly die/be injured, and they realize the troops are suffering for the mistakes of the administration. I think that's supporting the troops more than just yelling "Yay America!". I think you jumped the gun on your response.

Correct me if I'm wrong, t_the_t.

Car_Ramrod: I'm thinking his point was that if anyone disagreed with how the war was being handled, they were attacked as hating the troops and being unpatriotic. Which is ironic, because the large majority of those criticizing the war didn't want our troops to needlessly die/be injured, and they realize the troops are suffering for the mistakes of the administration. I think that's supporting the troops more than just yelling "Yay America!". I think you jumped the gun on your response

You are correct.

But don't let that get in the way of Mr. GETOFFYOURASSANDSERVEHURRRGARBLE

He seems to have fun making shiat up.

Senescent Dawn: wolvernova: Fark you, Nancy. I'd rather see that money be burned than use it to subsidize some irresponsible jackass' mortgage.

Speaking as someone who chose to continue to rent instead of use the hundreds of thousands of dollars my bank had pre-approved me for, I understand you. But you watch what happens if millions are foreclosed on while the banks are being handed cash hot off the printing press.

They get sold for cheap to responsible people like you and me that won't be house poor or deep under water in ten years. I like this whole foreclosure thing. Cheaper housing is a good thing.

The Divine Ponytail is truly divine and that comment should be made into an article and purchased for money.

You don't see me trying to play make-believe, spouting nonsense about neocon plans to drive America into ruin. Anyone who thinks that, especially when our own president doesn't understand how to farking chew pretzels correctly, displays as much common sense as rock.

*terrorist fist bump*

I like how after you informed him that you and your family were indeed veterans, he basically called you all stupid. THAT's how you support the troops.

Dr. Rosenrosen: According to some news sources, they celebrated the $700 billion bailout with an $800 billion executive party:

Akshully the AIG hosted party wasn't a party for AIG executives. It was mostly attended by a bunch of independent insurance agents who exceeded their sales targets. Like thousands of other luxury resort parties that happen every weekend for sales reps around the country. It wasn't for celebrating the bailout.

That being said, I think they only cut their party budget because they got caught. I would be a surprised if Citigroup has cut their party budget.

When I suggested (upon advice from my CPA relative) that we give 700 billion to the American taxpayer instead of the banks, which would boost the economy more than giving it to the banks, people scoffed.

So we gave this money to the banks in the hopes that the banks would start lending money again, but the banks said, "Fark no, we're not going to loan out more money to these people - they have no money for down payments! Their credit ratings suck! The economy is in the shiatter! People are losing their jobs left and right! Only an IDIOT would lend out money at a time like this! But uh...thanks for the giant piles of cash. That really helped. For a minute there, we were worried that our millionaire Presidents might have to take a cut in pay. See you at the spa!"

We're trying to give out money to the auto companies so the auto workers aren't jobless, but if people can't get loans, then they're not going to buy cars, and we're in the same boat as we were before.

Gee...if only there was a way to give the money DIRECTLY to the people...how to do that...hmmm...
