So the first time it "slipped" out, and exposed as sucktasticness at its best, it "wasn't finished."

The second time it was actually released and again exposed as not being anywhere near what people would expect from a band called "Guns 'N' Roses" (even if it is Axl and no one else worth giving a flying fark about). And again, it's "not finished."

Axl needs to accept that he can't lead a band called "Guns 'N' Roses" and NOT sound like what we expect. We don't buy it.

Poor Axl. Still under the impression that anybody gives a fark.

mutterfark 2008-12-15 03:51:30 PM
Maybe it's been held up because some of the tracks are to be used on Duke Nukem Forever?

So do we have to give back the Dr. Pepper?

Tom_Slick: So do we have to give back the Dr. Pepper?

You can have my Dr. Pepper back when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Of course, given Axl's release schedule as of late...by the time "CDII" hits whatever passes for shelves in the distant future, It's a distinct possibility that I might not be speaking metaphorically.

I am fascinated by the fact that some people actually care about what this guy does.

jaylectricity [TotalFark] 2008-12-15 05:49:02 PM
Is this guy stupid? Release the damn CD and work on the next one. It's easy.

It's like when you're writing a Tolstoy in a chat, you hit enter often so the other people can read something while waiting for you to finish.

Anyone know the deal with the Best Buy exclusive; how much did they give/guarantee the record company/G'NR?

I wonder if they allowed it to be sold everywhere, if it would have done much better.

jiaxiaobo 2008-12-15 06:02:40 PM
How are sales "disappointing"? What did the label expect? It's 2008 - does anyone buy albums anymore? Everyone concerned should be happy it goes platinum. It has little to do with Appetite but it's a great record. Like jaylectricity said, make the follow-up and get on with it already. Axl don't have to defend nothing.

Anything to stay on people's minds, eh Axl? Well fark you. Guns N Roses sucks. Period.

It takes that long.....and it's suppose to be a double album? Just call it two albums that took so long to put out that The Minutemen could have released 20 double albums in the same time period (just to keep up with Husker Du).

Flagg99 2008-12-15 06:33:54 PM
People need to read the source material sometimes... there's transcripts of the chats he did with fans all over.

a) He said he thought of it as a double album; meaning the followup would be the second half, most of the songs being recorded over the years are in the can. He confirmed some working titles - The General, Soul Monster, etc.

b) Get past all the hate and CD is actually a solid album

c) cool of him to do these rather impromptu chats for the fans, on multiple fan-run sites

I love CD. I also loved UYI I and II (I moreso than II). And AfD, and Lies. I love everything Axl has released.

By the time I get to the end of CD, every time, my eyes are tearing up. Weird.

He's probably having trouble drumming up new lyrics for the songs. And to his credit, it's not easy soliciting poetry from 8th grade girls without looking like a child predator

If this were appearance of anybody but one of the men responsible for Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion, he would be laughed off the face of the planet. And yes, he's working on that.

/Chinese Democracy is a weak, pathetic piece of shiat.

paradroid 2008-12-15 09:36:30 PM
I will always love GNR and wonder why I do. The funniest shiat in Axl's chat cameo is his claim to have "indicted" J.D. Salinger's book "Catcher In The Rye" as "garbage" that shouldn't be taught to kids anymore.

His sense of concern for humanity is pretty rich, coming from the guy described in this passage from Rolling Stone in 2000:

Hodges-Knight testified that Axl kicked Everly with his cowboy boots, and dragged her around by the hair one night while she was wearing a see-through tank top and panties, threw a television set at her (it missed) and spit on her. "That pig," she said. "He spit on her."

Maybe Axl Rose will show up on Fark to tell us about some other books we should ban.

InferiousX [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-12-15 09:42:52 PM
I haven't heard the whole album but the song they play from it on the radio here sounds pretty cool to me.

Anyone expecting it to sound like old GNR without Slash is probably waiting for Metallica to release another album that sounds exactly like Kill em All

FriarReb98: Axl needs to accept that he can't lead a band called "Guns 'N' Roses" and NOT sound like what we expect. We don't buy it.

Uh what? Bands are supposed to keep the same sound for over 20 years?
Like we expect?

Who the fark are we?

And frankly, minus the distinctive Slash sound, Chinese Democracy sounds exactly like you would expect GNR to sound if you follow the evolution 15 years from Use Your Illusion.

The whiners wanted Appetite II, they got Use Your Illusion III. I'm shocked that they would expect anything less.

If you are a rock journalisim fan then read that article he posted. One of the best and most interesting pieces Rolling Stone has ever published.

This is why I hate arguments involving modern music. There is always the person who argues that because X band/singer didnt do the new stuff exactly like X album that it is now all crap. Instead of remembering that they are indeed artists and ya know....change and evolve and stuff.

strafe 2008-12-15 10:56:13 PM
CD messed with my head. You can't just listen to it once. I hated it at first, but then tried to listen to it again about two more times and figured out that it's an album and you can't get the whole thing from one song. It's not a set of singles you can just digest by hearing three mp3s off of it. But then again you could listen to it eight times and still hate it.

It's also not what you're expecting. It's like reaching for your beer and taking a drink and it's jack and coke. Not that it's not good, it's just not what you thought was in the glass. It's not GN'R.

The vocals are good if you're into that high pitched thing. Actually they're really really good if you're into that kind of thing which I am. However, the lyrics themselves, some of the lines could have used a little more work. Some sound like he was just changing words around in a few spots to force them. Axl also uses repetitive chorus lines much more than the other albums instead of slightly alternating each chorus or totally avoiding them like in Coma.

The music itself however isn't anything superb. Some songs as a whole stick out, but there's really no single piece of music like a solo or beat or riff that really sticks out at me. There's no November Rain solo or Don't Damn Me riff or Welcome to the jungle riff or even a very distinctive 12 fret type note from Civil War. All the music parts blend very smoothly at all times except for a few solos that don't even sound like they belong in that song, but after hearing it a few times...

At least that's the way it was for me. It's still good though, but it's not 15 years good and it's not anywhere near the other albums.

I agree with you, though I don't know if the term artist is what I'd use to describe Axl. Slash was the only thing that made Guns N roses interesting.

So Slash's Snakepit sucked why??

Izzy/Axl were/are the songwriters in the band (kinda cool that there's an Izzy track possibly on the next album, if you read all the chats, at least, the track exists so it could be on it). Slash is an awesome blues rock guitar player but the guy just doesn't have it as a writer. Lays down awesome solos but anything he's done post-GNR has been disappointing.
