(NME) Obvious Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne doesn't like Arctic Monkeys or Oasis but prefers Radiohead, who are much more deserving of a Grammy. Turns around and puts more keyboards on a song that fans will find ultimately disappointing   (nme.com) divider line 35

Your favorite band sucks and Radiohead is their favorite band.

I have "telepathic surgery" on two disc [three sides] blue coloured vinyl. It's pretty alright. basically late 80's/early 90's hard rock with a slight indie twist. and late 80's/early 90's crappy production values.

I also have:
"the soft bulletin".
i really like the first four or five songs, then it goes down hill for me...

"yoshimi..."
one or two or three good songs, the rest - meh.

"at war with the mystics"
my favourite Lips cd. Tons of great songs. Excellent engineering/production. Catchy as hell.
i don't get why some people didn't like it, but eh to each their own.

If you ever have four cd boomboxes handy, give "Zaireeka" a listen.

My fav Lips record.

/Christmas on Mars is also pretty kick ass.

Hmmmmm I like The Lips but Radiohead does NOTHING for me.

Anyone got any suggestions?

It's not that hard to do (helps if you have a friend or two to help). Worth trying at least once....

Anyone managed 4 disks yet?

I got up to 3 once, but mainly I can listen to 2 by myself, and its still AWESOME...
It could be a whole new way of approaching music, but then ... I realized... that most people arent crazy/nerdy/jobless/stupid enough to waste their precious time having music come out of several different sources all at once... and spend money buying SEVERAL cds at once...

I was also mind blown by how cd players, no matter their quality and how much money you payed for them, will not STAY IN SYNCH with each others...

Okay, you son of a biatch. I just saw Christmas on Mars tonight. I'm a huge, lifelong Lips fan. That shiat was TERRIBLE.

/amusingly terrible, though

I'm so baffled by this. Not because I really like Yoshimi (which I do, I think it's their best work), but because I didn't know anyone liked At War With The Mystics. I've never met a single person who likes that album, even a little bit. I smoked a ton of some of the most powerful weed on earth and that album bored the crap out of me. The Yeah Yeah Yeah song is especially awful.

Managed 4 disks. I can't really remember how it went, and I'll admit that I torrentted it so I didn't have to pay for it, but are you serious that it costs the same as a regular quad-album?

And Christmas on Mars is decent in my opinion. The 1st half is a bit too tripped out but the 2nd half is good.

Priest Driven Ambulance is one of my favorite albums and Soft Bulletin is a masterpiece. But aside from those they kind of lost me. I think Arctic Monkeys is one of the best new bands out right now. And Oasis sucks eggs. Radiohead has alternately elated & disappointed me so much, they're pretty much meh to me now. So now you have both Wayne Coyne's and my opinions on the matter. Big deal.

Eh, it's got an EP-worth of good tracks, the rest is studio noodling. Yoshimi is my favorite. Soft Bulletin is way overrated.

If you can manage to sync-up Zaireeka, it's really damn good (4 disc drives, two computers, frequents pauses to sync things up).

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-12-16 12:27:14 AM
yeah... i hate the "yeah yeah yeah" song too... and "goin' on" is one of the worst album closers ever. They should've left that one off, and closed with "pompeii..."

nope, i never did sync Zaireeka... i don't have it, and have never listened to it, but a friend of mine did about 5 years ago... but we didn't have 4 cd players in our possession at the time lol

I did a 5.1 mix in Cool Edit Pro long time ago, of course I lost it and I don't have CEP anymore. Even just mixed to stereo it was pretty overwhelmingawesome.

The people in the comments section on that site seem pretty butthurt that Wayne Coyne doesn't acknowledge the greatness that is Oasis. This amuses me.

The Arctic Monkeys have their moments. Brianstorm (yes, Brian) has a pretty righteous groove going on.

And much as I like the Flaming Lips, it must be admitted that apart from the couple of standout tracks Yoshimi.. is mostly filler.

I love Zaireeka. We used to get together in high school and listen to that. When we couldn't find or afford drugs, that album was our drugs.
