"The crocodiles use a 6,800-acre system of canals used to cool the power plant -- which the crocodiles are only too happy to use."

Redundancy is redundant.

Go wrong? This is laying the groundwork for the most awesome action movie EVER!

Wasn't this in a CSI: Miami episode? Horatio saves Miami from radioactive crocodiles or something?

Yeah, I was thinking - Throw in a bunch of terrorists and Samuel L. Jackson "I'm tired of these motherfarking crocodiles in my motherfarking power plant" and we've got one heck of a flick.

So, the crocodiles are running the plant? They must have have eaten the plant staff. Disturbing developments, indeed!

Qbwiz 2008-12-14 08:17:12 PM
This is a smart plan, putting two NIMBY things in the same area. How about adding a chemical plant to the mix?

So the Miami mob(s) have an even better place to dump bodies.

Dear God, man! The crocs could drive to your house and back on just a day trip!!
Get the women and children into the basement and tell them not to open the door for ANY reptiles!

subby: Nuclear power plant is home to 400 crocodiles. What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing, considering that they're not in the plant itself, and that they've been there for 30 years.

Go ahead you towel heads let's see you sneak up on that power plant.

lol, these American crocs aren't even as aggressive as American alligators. Ain't anything to be worried about.

OH NOES! ONLY 3 hours away??

After living in Homestead for 10 years and spending quite a bit of time in and around Turkey Point, I can assure you that you need not worry.

The Columbians down there are MUCH scarier.

Many nuclear power plant sites double as wildlife protected areas.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Ringshadow 2008-12-14 08:48:52 PM
I've worked in the industry and yeah, this is normal. In fact feel free to file this under 'farking DUH.'

My dad does regulatory compliance for the industry and was down there on an audit. Apparently he was delayed getting to his car once because security was trying to find a gator (or a croc, I guess) that had gotten into the parking lot.

DC Cook, a local plant, has a fearless populous of absolutely huge deer. They aren't generally a problem except for eating the landscaping. Cook also once shut down because their inlet bay filled with millions of Alewives (tiny fish that apparently got confused).

As for everyone posting signs of mutilated wildlife, nuclear power plants don't generally have radioactive runoff. There's laws, you know. Everything has to go out at a neutral pH within certain chemical bounds and below a certain radioactivity (generally lower than background). But, don't let me ruin your fun.
