Might have gotten my vote had he used the title Air Pirate John McCain...

I would have voted for McCain had I known he was a POW.
Why didn't he mention his war record or that Obama might be a Muslim?

I think McCain is a decent guy. He just had the misfortune of running against a once-in-a-generation caliber leader. There isn't a Republican in the country who could have won this year.

It's nice to see John McCain go back to being John McCain. I, for one, salute the notorious Air Pirate John McCain.

Did he actually curse or just say "bleeping"? Was that a reference to the Blagojevich stuff? It'd be nice if the writer of the article actually put any effort into it to explain that, but I guess just copying the transcript was enough work as is.

That's what I was wondering too.

He said bleeping.

This is why I really liked McCain.

Stupid Republican party.

It's not just that, though that's certainly part of it.

He could have had good chances if he'd truly led his campaign; instead, he let the campaign lead him. Had he been himself during the campaign, his chances may well have been good.

Running against Obama was part of it but McCain's biggest problem was the R behind his name.

An eloquent charismatic leader with an ability to rally people under the idea of hope running against a career senator who is part of the incumbent party (a party which happened to run the country in to the ground domestically, economically, and with regards to foreign relations)

I remember distinctly telling my Aussie in-laws that I was pleased about the electoral choices in the USA this last year. I said bluntly to my wife and mother in law that I felt that no matter who won, we'd have a good President.

And then John McCain made me look like a damn liar when he swung over to the kooky ass right.

I don't know if I can forgive the man actually. He's better than he was in this election, hell he knows he's better than that. On some levels, it's obvious that he tried to be that guy, but in the end for whatever reason he came up short - which makes me wonder if this "better" John McCain actually even exists, or if it's just another face that he puts on because it pleases him.

If he was going to fall on his sword for the GOP this year, and there is every indication that this is exactly what happened, he could have at least done so on principle instead of with pandering to people he once called (correctly) "agents of intolerance".

FTFY. Oh and picking "I'll talk down about Senator Obama. Oh, what am I? I'm three years younger and never left Bumfark, Alaska, so I believe that being Mayor of a small town in the middle of the tundra is greater than being a Senator for a core state known for vicious politics" Palin as a running mate.

Now now. McCain was never mean-that was Palin, and the McCain supporter crowd. I watched McCain's concession speech-he got BOOED by the crowd when he admitted defeat and praised Obama for winning.

He said there's a statue at the site in Hanoi where he was taken prisoner that says "26 on October 1967 the famous air pirate was shot down. John McCain was captured."

Oh my God, that was funny.

I think McCain went kinda to the far right because that was what everyone in his campaign believed was the only chance he had to win. Obama was just too much for the guy.

And yeah-first time i ever felt like even if my choice did not win that we would still be doing OK....as long as he stayed alive. Palin plain out scared me.

I thought the same until I saw his campaign. I rooted for McCain throughout the Republican primaries, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. But his post-nomination campaign scared the crap out of me.

- he is an idiot that
1. suspended his campaign in a blatant attempt to showboat and resulted in looking like a panic attack
2. picked his vp based on short sighted plan to get votes rather than what would be good for the country
3. graduated 896 out of 900 in his class
4. is John McCain
