For a long time when I lived in Kodiak, I didn't have a cell phone (they didn't have a tower). I could go out into the wilderness and be well and truly alone.

I lived without running water for a time. I live without electricity for 2 weeks a year when I go camping.

People can live under bridges and in ally-ways. People can live in abject poverty with nothing in the slums of third world countries.

I can live without damn near every material possession I own, except meager bits of food and drink. But I like the quality of life I have. So this stuff - all these luxuries like a shower, a toothbrush, shoes, a bottle opener, a lighter, a car - stays where it is.

I don't have any of those things either. In fact, I'm so hardcore minimal, I don't even have a place to live right now.

It's nice living in a big city with decent public transportation.

Almost have no cellphone. Used to have two, now it's some basic model on a pay as you go plan. Phone stays in the car.
