What could be dumber? How about not reading the Farking article. He lost $30 million, not $900 million. Just a small difference.

That's it then, I'm suing the state lottery because they keep selling me defective tickets!

CornFedIowan 2008-12-13 09:51:12 PM
Why, that's like blowing tens of millions of dollars in the stock market and then asking the government for...never mind.

skinink 2008-12-13 09:51:48 PM
Yeah these damn Ring Dings, they just keep forcing me to eat them day and night. I'm gonna sue Hostess for damages.

I'm sure he'd still be suing if he'd won...

Seems he lost a total of $900 million, and A$37 million at the specific casino. The larger number may have been a result of his activites which got him banned from all of the other casinos.

CANBERRA (Reuters) - An Australian gambler who lost millions in a A$1.4 billion ($909 million) gaming spree is suing one of the country's largest casinos, claiming he was targeted by managers despite a known gambling addiction.

In a case which lawyers say could have implications stretching to China, gambling addict Harry Kakavas is suing Crown Casino in Melbourne for A$50 million damages after a mammoth 14-month baccarat binge in which he lost A$37 million.

There looks to be a legitimate case.

It sense article not makes.

Harvey Manfrenjensenjen 2008-12-13 09:56:50 PM
Supreme Court documents said Kakavas wore a concealed recorder that captured Crown managers allegedly attempting to lure him back to its riverside baccarat tables.

This guy knew exactly what he was doing. Had he won, the recording would never see the light of day. He did it in the hopes that if he lost he'd be able to recoup those losses on a technicality.

Addiction does not mean you are no longer responsible for your actions. You need to take steps to keep yourself out of those situations. If the court does find the casino liable, the money should be donated to some worthy group rather than given back to this asshat.

simpsonfan 2008-12-13 09:57:23 PM
Nobody should be banned from a casino except for doing something illegal. Okay to ban cheaters. But people who claim to have a gambling problem, fark them, they deserve to lose. If a gambling 'addict' suddenly kept winning, he wouldn't say he had a problem.

GoodHomer 2008-12-13 09:57:57 PM
Wow. If I had $900 million to lose, I'd do it in far more fulfilling ways than losing it in a casino, let alone at a baccarat table.

I like gambling a bit between friends and stuff, but I really don't understand the appeal of big-money gambling. I mean, if I had $900 million, I'd spend it all on hookers and blow. That'd be way more fun than baccarat.

What could be dumber? How about a Federal bailout for casino losses, which is basically what's happening.

Actually, I think the 900mil is the total amount of money that changed hands, for better or worse.

The real issue here is, the casino plotted to draw a known addict into their casino because they knew he lacked the self control, to such an extent that the casino itself banned him from the business.

It would be akin to a bar enticing a known drunk inside so they could make money off of him, no matter what harm it could cause.

Very irresponsible and I hope he wins.

THIS.

Anyone who can gamble away that much money over that long a time period is an idiot who should never have access to that much money. At the same time, if the casino wants to act like a douchebag factory, they don't deserve the money either. Best result here is to make both parties losers.

Can I sue the government for my losses for betting on this country?

DeathByGeekSquad 2008-12-13 10:06:38 PM
So I got bored and watched Wife Swap the other day...(don't ask)

They had a family of 'sweepers' who play Sweepstakes -nonstop-, in all forms. They go hunting for bottle caps in the dumpster and crap like that. Anyways, throughout the show, the husband (a cop), was freaking out about his 'sweeps', to the point where upon getting an rejection letter that stated 'Better luck next time, buy more of our products to try again!", he openly declared he'd pick more up on the way home.

Kitty Litter, without owning a cat, and more crap like that.

Psycho people, and we trust that man with a gun?

It'll all work out in the end. I'm sure if he asks realy nice, they will comp his room for a $900 million loss, maybe throw in a free trip to the buffet even.

Nah, he spent the $909 million gambling, but after his winnings, he still lost 37 million once all is said and done.

$909 mil is what he spent on his "venture", $37 mil was his actual loss.

With $900 million, I could have Megan Fox cloned. And genetically engineered to want me. Constantly.

So, to answer your question, yes.

This guy is a douche and deserves to loose his money, he was ban from all casinos in Australia, and yet he still went to China and Las Vagas to gamble. He new he had an addiction and choose not to do anything about it so fark him.

Dandii 2008-12-13 10:40:00 PM
Alot of people here obviously never had an addiction.

My grandfather killed himself over his gambling debts, he knew he had destroyed the life for my father and his wife so he took his own life when the debt got to much for him to handle.

Gambling like most psychological addictions is as real as any physical addiction.

Its all sweet to sit at your keyboard and give them shiat for falling to an addiction you have been "to strong" to fall to but god damn wishing the worst on addicts?

Sorry but fark off -- addicts need all the help they can get so they dont kill themselves and leave their family's emotionally ruined.

Screw all the haters here :P

Addiction is a hell of a drug.

I cant even imagine what it might be like to have nearly a billion dollars, but if I did, I'd blow a lot of it on much better things.

I'm pretty sure that I could not drink that much beer or buy that much poontang in my lifetime.

He actually has a chance of winning here if he was actually voluntarily barred from gambling establishments in Australia. Gambling addiction, whether a legitimate medical condition or not, is serious business in Oz.

If you feel you are unable to control yourself, you can voluntarily place yourself on an excluded list. All of the casinos and even bars with pokies have copies of this list, which includes at the very least names and photographs.

If he had, in fact, voluntarily excluded himself from gambling establishments, and they permitted him to gamble there, he most definitely has a solid case.

I had/have many addictions. That doesn't mean society should pander to me because I am too weak to resist them. I'm not brain dead; I know what I'm doing every time I indulge them.

/30mil..900mil would buy me alot of young, hot firemen

I can't speak for GoodHomer. But for 900 million I'd be looking at something like cloning Miley Cyrus so I can do her, and her clone while Billy Ray Cyrus watches from behind a foot of plexiglass as a troupe of midget elves poke him with sticks and tickle him with feathers. And should he try to look away authentic Parisian mimes recreating the debauchery.
