So the X-Men could have stopped it?

"'If you're serving overseas, and you watch the mainstream media coverage, sometimes you can't tell if America knows you're there,' one official overseeing the program says."
I don't think that's true - I think you might wonder if you're supported while you're there, but I think that America knows you're there. Depends on which version of the mainstream media you get in your area.

I would take it one step further and say that America supports the troops while they are there, but most don't support the reasons they are there.

I'd agree with you 100% - most of America does support the troops (Jim Phelps & his cronies not included). It's the spin that the media (not just American) puts on everything that might make them wonder how we feel.

FTA:"Instead of focusing on its primary mission of showcasing and communicating support to the troops and their families, the ASY program focus [turned to] building or soliciting support from the public," the Inspector General's report notes.

Turned to? That presupposes that it wasn't conceived as a way to catapult more propaganda on the American people. Rumsfeld was the most incompetent miltary leader since Wile E Coyote, because he was strictly a politician. A poll watcher.

When he ordered Bremer to fire the Iraqi Army en masse, polls showed that even the man on the street thought it was stupid. So he calls Bremer back three days later and asks him if he can get the Army back. Seriously. This farking fool killed tens of thousands of people because he was playing politics on a battlefield. The man should be jailed for incompetence.

The proof: look at how much the situation has improved since Mr. Magoo left the Pentagon.

pvd021 2008-12-13 12:43:41 PM
This is still chump change compared to the hundred of millions unaccounted for and vanished in Iraq. I still haven't seen any heads roll for all that vanished money.

I wonder what the count will be when historians tally up all the scandals that will be uncovered during Bush's Administration.

It, uh... actually sounds like a lot of what they were doing was legal. I mean, okay, no, not laundering money through a pentagon-funded newspaper, no, but hiring a PR firm to help the business expand and thrive? Isn't calling them out on that a little bit like calling out Coke for buying airtime for commercials instead of using that money to make Coke? As long as the program is still supporting the troops, then where is the problem?

As an aside, I've also never understood the media outcry over rich people hiring their friends to do work for them. There is a marked benefit to working with people you know and trust, and isn't being able to forward a little cash to your pals here and there WHY you get rich in the first place?

Sorry, I misread this as a quote from TFA. I was hoping someone who gets paid to do this would know about it, hence the insult.

I take back the farktard comment.

AFN takes a bunch of various programming from channels back home and runs them, without commercials.

I'd only catch a glimpse of it the few times I was able to actually meals in the FOB's dining facility, and it seemed to consist entirely of Fox News, Hannity & Colmes, Bill O'Reilly, Mixed Martial Arts, and WWE Wrestling. There's also a military news segment, hosted by actual soldiers, sailors, and Marines who read off military-related news.

It was the usual blah-blah-blah bullshiat "we love the troops, here's a clip of some Corporal giving an Iraqi girl a teddy bear."

You know? Most of us don't give a flying fark what people back home think.

The only news that really affected us was the nice little present of getting an extra three months tacked onto the farking year we were already doing.

If it's getting better, we see it and feel the affects of it. If it's not, well the same shiat. I honestly don't give a shiat what someone who has zero clue what we do, and what our missions entailed, what their opinion is. It be like some cardiologist giving a flying fark what some doofus who watches way too much ER thinks about the way he does a heart transplant.

...and yes, there was plenty of clips of senile rednecks thanking of us for goin' over there and gettin' Saddam for what he done to us on Septemmer Elebbin.

I disagree. the retcon ruined spiderman. he moves on, grows up, gets married, sides with tony stark in the civil war and reveals his identity. it all made him a a more engaging character, they had him step out of the "never changes" mold in most comics. then, they just go and retcon it all away and now he never changes. booooooring.

And funneling money to "friends" of the DOD. And not actually spending some 9 mil on the troops, but having it vanish. And paying 15,000$ for Gary Sinise's band.

If you are going to have "superheroes" at a high publicity event, do not dress them up in 40 dollar knock off costumes. Get some decent costumes and do it properly, or don't bother. Cheap costumes are for Halloween.

Okay, the Armed Forces Network is very USA-can-do-no-wrong biased, but it DOES portray the troops and people back home in good light. I will say though that it has the production quality of my highschool morning news. They just need to show things that people WANT to watch. It's pretty much like not having cable in terms of the shows it offers, but add in a few channels of military propaganda and some amazingly horrid "commercials". I used to watch the Bahrains local TV instead of AFN even though I couldnt understand any of it.

It is shiat like this that gets me bent out shape!

I go to anti-war rallies and some political pundit types call us traitors and bash us for not 'not supporting the troops'. Where is the outrage from those pundits when shiat like this happens within the governing administration?

Walter Reed, declaring victory to reduce troop pay, this crap, stop-leave measures, etc. and no outrage! WTF?

How many times do these assholes need to prove they have no regard for the troops for their cheerleaders to realize this?

Stupid questions I know, but come on!
