If audiences started minding soulless, sterile sampled beats looped endlessly, the whole music industry would collapse overnight.

At least one of their recent songs stomped ass:

I've found a few show clips of the songs reported to be on the new album done live and I can say:

Don't let the title track "Invaders Must Die" speak for the album. Of what I've heard, it's by FAR the worst track they've ever done.

The rest of the album? I'd say it's going to kick ass, if not be a hell of a comeback.

Omen (new window)
Warrior's Dance (new window)
Run With Wolves (new window)
World's On Fire (new window)

Invaders Must Die (Offical music video) (new window) - Not that impressive. I think it might be to lure in Pendulum fans, since they've gone to shiate since leaving the Breakbeat Kaos label...

Not on the album but deserving honorable mention: Warning (new window)

Winktologist [TotalFark] 2008-12-13 02:18:26 AM
PS, submittard: Out of all the mindless sampled loops that are out there today, I'd say that The Prodigy have, by a large margin, the most unsterile.

I mean really, you'd rather listen to Chingy? Really?

/they even knocked up your mom

Serial Killer X 2008-12-13 07:42:12 AM
Thanks for that Winktologist I thought the same that IMD sounded a little too close to Pendulum for my tastes, although you could argue that no Prodigy = no Pendulum and for what it's worth I really like Pendulum even since they left Breakbeat Kaos so I still like Invaders as a song as if nothing else it's a very good Pendulum rip-off. Those others have more potential though despite the crappy sound in those videos.

pipco 2008-12-13 08:08:44 AM
Hau Ruck wow, that rocks; never heard that cut. I haven't found any other music of that type that I like, but The Prodigy is fantastic. Ever since Firestarter I like them.

K, what the fark is the deal with the retards who keep posting their 'remixes' as actual songs.

You're not a professional, and changing the tempo does not make you a master at mixing.

/Songs sounded interesting, the ones that weren't live with shiat audio

If you'd really like the answer to this question, please let me know, but it has to do with the shift on English from a synthetic to an analytic language, and common usage.

Never cared much for artificial stuff, but Prodigy actually managed to turn electronic music into, well, music. Highly enjoyable.

The fact that Liam released Warning sans vocals made me extremely pissed off. I have a few live versions with it so it kind of makes up for it but not to have a proper studio recording is just wrong. That song is probably the best thing they have done since Fat of the Land. It also cracks me up that most of the songs that came out after AONO were way better than a good portion of that album. (songs like Wake the F*ck up and Back 2 School)

Can't wait to hear the new album and like others said that new song is very much like Pendulum.

Not to mention that could hardly be a "hottest" dance album. Off the top of my head, the "Brown Album" by Orbital is still one of the most solid in the genre...

Not a big fan of the over-vocaled smoothed-out DnB that is starting to show up. Drum N Bass/Jungle is a dancefloor thing, and that's where my heart is at. This was good though, reminded me of the first Freak release (D-Kay & Rawful - Be There 4 U) from way back when. Ah, memories...

As for Breakbeat Kaos, they have had some good releases; Picked up Brookes' Brothers "F-Zero (new window)" not long ago, if you like smoother stuff, it's got a pretty good futurebeat thing going on.

Worst. Prodigy. Album.

Honestly, if this new album had gone in that direction, I would have renounced being a fan. Considering in what high regards I hold The Prodigy, that's saying something.

If you really want to hear some good Prodigy, you need to first be ready to listen with open ears to some old skool shiat. Then, pick up a copy of Experience Extended, or Their Law: Singles from 1991-2005 and listen all the way through.

/Spitfire and Girls are good tracks, though.

I have to confess I find the liquid scene a bit more compelling than the jump up stuff. I really submersed myself into the atmospheric drum n bass days of GLR and 720 Degrees and the wobble madness of neurofunk, although I've been in this since the days of Altern 8 and the Prodigy.

So the drumfunk stuff also takes me back to the Photek days of sparse, distant breaks and abstract tunes. :) The Seba tune is a bit syrupy, but I like it.

I try to keep up with Fokuz, Horizons, a bit of Hospital, Subtitles, etc., etc.

Winktologist [TotalFark] 2008-12-13 05:03:31 PM
Malbar: The prodigy have always cracked me up. It's basically one guy with all the talent and then 3 people who just dance around on stage, occassionally shouting out a line or two.

What a useless of bunch of pylons.

Interesting story behind that: Maxim and Keith where buddies of Liam (the "keyboard guy who does everything") back in like 1990 when he first started producing dance (he used to be a hip-hop DJ) and they heard his stuff on the other side of a cassette he made with a DJ mix, apparently by accident. They liked it so much they encouraged him to do a live show and they'd dance on stage to get the crowd pumped up. Now they do vocals as elements of the actual songs, and the fourth guy, Leeroy, has gone on to do solo work. But hey, it wouldn't be the Prodigy without Maxim and Keef getting proper mad and spitting water on everyone :-)

Oh, man. I didn't realize there were people on Fark who actually knew about drum 'n' bass.

While we're on that topic, I dug the hell out of the recent Calibre album. Tougher-sounding than his usual output, but just as complex and interesting.

Jesus christ. It's really sad that the only way to get a greenlit electronic music discussion is to bash the Prodigy with the same ho-hum LOLmachinemuziksux11!! It's too bad, because there could be some really interesting and ear opening discourse given the breadth of music knowledge on Fark.

Instead, we have another idiot submitter taking a cheap and ignorant swipe at a legendary act in its field, likely without having heard a fraction of their music.

Hey mods - the music section would be a lot cooler if you rounded it out a little. There is a lot of great electronic music out there.

You may now return to your regular discussion of rock bands that haven't been relevent since the Carter administration.

That's just how Fark is with all music. It usually cycles between a selection of bands like Coldplay, Radiohead, Moby, Nine Inch Nails, Nickelback, etc. to create a bunch of arguments and flame wars which generate far more clicks than a nice, friendly discussion.

Notice that Blender no longer advertises here...? Best I can say is hop in music threads and post positive comments. It might help, it might not.

Yeah, we're here. I've mostly entrenched in dub techno and dubstep at the moment to be honest. I guess I got old and the constant fervor of most drum n bass made me want to chase people off my lawn. :p Calibre's last LP was the business though, but he's always on the top of his game.
