My pre-click guess was "Wonderful Tonight".

I was hoping it was going to be Type O Negative's "Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty of Infidelity" a.k.a. ""I Know You're farking Someone Else"

lol--I haven't listened to that in about 15 years. "...and don't think I don't know what you're doing, you stupid twat!"

You Know I'm No Good by Amy Winehouse has to win a catchiest song about adultery contest.

The song is full of killer, brash horns. The lyrics only half match the music - they're part bravado, but full of self-loathing, and all destruction. You wonder if Amy is really throwing it in Blake Incarcerated's face that she's no good and he knew that going in, or if she's just repeating that to herself to somehow justify farking it all up again, or if she's blaming herself for a relationship that is clearly poisonous. ("You shrug, and it's the worst - who truly stuck the knife in first?")

It's doubly fascinating because this entire song played out in the tabloids - Amy's tempestuous relationships with her ex-boyfriend and her main drug pusher and soon to be ex-husband, I hope. (That'd be Blake, the one who failed a drug test and was sent back to jail recently.)

In any case - love this song.

I'm with gruelurks, "Unsuccessfully Coping.." is THE best song about infidelity ever!

Trust and you'll be trusted
Says the liar to the fool
Lust and so what if you're busted?
In love and war there ain't no rules

Do you believe in forever?
I don't even believe in tomorrow
The only things that last forever
Are memories and sorrow

Out of sight out of mind
The motto of betrayal
The prophets preach to forgive and forget
I'm sorry, but I am unable

You went to l'amour saturday night
Red nails and lipstick dressed two sizes two tight
His tongue down your throat
His hand up your skirt
Yeah I'm a man
But it still hurts

Slut
Whorecoont

I know you're farking someone else
(he knows you're farking someone else)

You had cock on your mind
And cum on your breath
Inserted that diaphragm before you left
Practicing freelance gynecology
Where there's a womb there's a way
With you it's for free

Slut
Whorecoont

I know you're farking someone else
(he knows you're farking someone else)

Done it before
Time after time
Refused to learn your lesson
Gave 'til it hurt
Thought it was right
Only fools make mistakes twice

So you sit home
Drinking alone
Empty bottle in your hand
Don't even try
To sort out the lies
It's worse to try to understand

You make me hate myself

I know you're farking someone else
(he knows you're farking someone else)

I listen to a fair amount of Crowded House and Neil Finn's solo stuff myself, and this song was my guess when I read the headline. Very nice, submitter.

I see that Neil's getting the "Seven World's Collide" ensemble back together to record and I believe I read that they're playing a handful of shows, maybe even this month. If you're a fan and you haven't seen that DVD from the 2001 performances, it's great. As is the CH "Farewell To The World" concert. Paul Hester is in fine form on that one. They hold a shot of him briefly at the end of the last encore and it almost makes you weep seeing the look on his face.

I will add, though, that "Long Black Veil" is, in my opinion, probably the greatest adultery song ever.

Was hoping to hear the Old 97's Designs on You. Absolutely beautiful song that becomes sweetly evil upon multiple listenings.

I love that song. It's technically not about adultery, yet -- "you can go ahead and get married and it'll probably never happen again."

Interesting piece on the song here.

Quite. And more so considering his perspective as a 25-year-old reflecting on his impressions of the song as a child. Thanks for the link.

Looking forward to their next release with the line-up well in place now. Time On Earth was good, though something of a hybrid Neil Finn/Crowded House effort.

And here's a bit on Neil's 7 Worlds Collide revisitation that I mentioned previously.

It's really subtle too, someone might think it's a proper love song until they hear the line "the fact that you're still married, only proves you're my best friend." Classic song.

The 70s country duo The Kendalls made their entire career with cheatin' songs.

Some of their hits:
"Teach me to Cheat" (1981, #7 Country)
"Cheater's Prayer" (1982, #30 Country)

and of course

"Heaven's Just a Sin Away" (1977, #1 Country and bonus lulz points for being #69 on the Hot 100)

Infinity lulz points are awarded to this group for the duo being a father and a daughter.

Even as a kid and listening to WLS Chicago (the best station I could get on AM from my little Southern town. Only at night) I would ask myself "Why are those people laughing and not trying to kill each other?"
