hey submitter, explain to me what this has to do with the 'blagojevich business'

Ryan is seeking commutation from President Bush after serving more than a year of his 6 1/2-year corruption sentence.

Silly boy, threads that don't mention "blagojevich" don't get automatically green lit!

Subby knew that.

The mods are tired of just green lighting blagojevich headlines that lie about the stories, they have moved on to green lighting ones that don't even mention him now.

I'm glad google maps provided a little window showing where Chicago is located, because its not a well known city and people might not know where it is.

Ryan says his "performance in office was less than my best and for that I am sorry."

Unless the article is leaving out a lot, that's not apologizing for his crimes.

Any Pie Left 2008-12-12 11:47:28 PM
Should have the irony tag on this: by way of explanation, George Ryan got nailed shortly after serving his one term as governor for corruption he perpetrated five years previously as Illinois Secretary of State (DMV), corruption that very indirectly led to the deaths of six kids in a horrific highway accident, when the truck driver that caused the accident turned out to have bribed his way to a CDL and bypassed safety training and testing; the bribes paid for George Ryan fundraiser tickets his employees were forced to sell or pay for out of pocket to keep their jobs.

Blago used George's situation to ride a wave of "throw the republican bums out" voter anger, tarred his competent and non-corrupt opponents as George Ryan pals and co-conspirators in the most expensive Tv ad campaign ever, (fueled by graft money to Rod) and campaigned that he was the white knight that was going to "reform and renew" the state and "end the pay to play politics as usual". Milorad no-middle-name-just-the-letter-R- Blagojevich then proceeded to take pay to play to "TURBO", and raped the state for one and a half terms like it was a coed on roofies.

Illinoisans have been predicting these two governors would be cell mates since before George was indicted. It wouldn't take a crystal ball.

Well said.

Georges Ryan and Bush caused me to vow to never again vote republican.

Blago is using up my democrat voting patience.

Megain: hey submitter, explain to me what this has to do with the 'blagojevich business'

Blagojevich's alleged crimes mean that the chance of Ryan being pardoned by Bush is much less likely than before.

You'll need to study political science to understand why.

Becuase now his "I'm really lonely in here, George" defense is less likely to work on our small minded Commander-in-Fail?

Much less embaressed than if you'd had enough dignity not to be involved in the tremendous levels of douchbaggery required to qualify for one of those pardons?

When Blago was arrested Ryan's hope for a pardon went up in smoke. It reminds people of just how corrupt he really was. Now he's so desperate for a pardon that he actually apologized.

He could have apologized after he spent months in prison. He didn't. He could have apologized when Durbin wrote that letter to Bush. He didn't. Now, 3 days after another Illinois governor was arrested, he finally apologized. He's desperate.

(But as far as apologies go, this was terrible.)

fark this bag of dicks, I hope he rots in prison reminiscing the bag of dicks he was for allowing people to get commercial licenses that inevitability result in horribly fatal highway accidents. If he died in a fiery wreck being transferred from one federal penitentiary to another would be the only way I would consider him being fully repaid of his crimes.

Correct, only you left out the part about Obama leaning on State Senate President Emil Jones to allow ethics legislation to get a vote a few months back. The bill passed, limiting campaign contributions from companies that do business with the state, and generally making 'pay-to-play' politics that much harder. Effective Jan. 1st.

This deadline put the heat on Blago to stuff his campaign war chest as full as he could manage, while the getting was good. This very well led Rod to overreach on what he could get for a US Senate seat.

(Also a second, and a hat tip to Confoundit @ 2:45, dead solid perfect.)

You're probably just trolling, but George Ryan (the former IL gov. in jail) is a Republican.

Also, Ryan did kind of make up for the license-for-bribe scandal by putting a moratorium on executions. Some of the people on IL death row didn't belong there and it took a lot of guts for a Republican governor to forestall their state-sanctioned murder.
