I don't know if Paterson will see it that way...

I'm glad someone finally had the courage to say what we've all been thinking: a Senator's genitalia are more of a factor than any so-called "qualifications" or "experience".

Carolyn Maloney seems like a good choice, he should look into that.

It's too bad you didn't say Howard Cosell, 'cause he had that one in his pocket the whole time.

FTA: It is not difficult to imagine that we are at the place in the history of New York politics where this is "the women's seat" of the two from New York.

You're right subby, he wasn't talking out of his ass. That was just some regular run of the mill stupidity.

Super Chronic 2008-12-12 02:14:19 PM
Actually, subby, Baldwin is pretty much talking out his ass this time, too. To wit:

Lowey had the good opinion of nearly everyone in the Congress, the New York delegation in particular and the state party apparatus. The New York Republicans, in 2000, had Rick Lazio. Then Hillary Clinton moved to New York.

Palpably false. Lazio was absolutely a last-minute fallback plan, long after Hillary was in the race. The Republicans had this other guy who was mayor of NYC at the time but had to drop out because of prostate cancer. Perhaps you've heard of him. (And he was a somewhat different kind of character back then: there were some events in 2001, as you may recall, that sort of changed his public image, both locally and nationally.) Lazio was clearly not their first choice.

I see what you did there, IXI Jim IXI , even if Paterson doesn't.

He wants a woman in that seat? And a Democrat, I suppose. Fine. How about Kristen Gillibrand?

Oh, wait, you wanted another weasel from "The City".

Seriously, without regard to gender or deviated preversion, the seat should go to someone from north of Yonkers.

/Preferably north of Poughkeepsie.
//Dare I dream? North of Albany...

Technically, even Chappaqua is north of Yonkers.

I agree with north of Albany. Gillibrand probably isn't ready yet though - she needs another term in the House, and Eastern NYS needs her as representative too. The Republican candidates for the 20th Congressional have been so very awful the last couple of times, and I worry that one of them will squeak in if she leaves too soon.

If they export so much tax revenue why do I pay shiatloads more in taxes for my house in NY on a dirt road with a well and a septic than I do for my house in "taxachusetts" where I get everything and even curb side garbage pickup?

If they export anything at all it's corruption and kickbacks, f*ck nyc.

Can't it just be made it's own city-state? Like D.C.

A congresswoman named Nita Lowey was viewed by many as the presumptive Democratic nominee, set to replace Daniel Moynihan who was ill and retiring. Lowey had the good opinion of nearly everyone in the Congress, the New York delegation in particular and the state party apparatus. The New York Republicans, in 2000, had Rick Lazio. Then Hillary Clinton moved to New York. Lowey stepped aside, graciously. Hillary ran and won. And now she will soon be gone and New York's "Celebrity Senate Seat" is in play again. Who would best represent the State of New York in that office?

...

Most of the names thrown around now are smart, caring New Yorkers. But only one is both fair and makes real sense for our state. Nita Lowey doesn't want it. Appoint Carolyn Maloney.

Jesus. Talk about burying the lede. You don't suppose you might have wanted to, you know, even mention the person you're suggesting somewhere before the last two words of the piece? Or maybe not lead off with what turns out to be an irrelevant aside about someone who doesn't even want the job?

Dare I heartily agree with someone who just called me a libtard? I guess that word is turning into a term of endearment.

I liked it too, until I found out he's not making fun of people like Nixon, he IS people like Nixon. I swear to god, the moment I saw him in an interview, my every instinct screamed "date rapist".
And then his defense, when asked why he would ever speak like that to a child, was "Well, I thought it was a private conversation."
