Can this be the first wave of post-baby boomer bands to reunite deep into middle age and long past their prime in an attempt to cash in on their former fans' memories of youth?

More Obscure Smiths B-side, which is a cover of a Cilla Black song.*

But listen, if this isn't up on Morrissey's website, then all this speculation can pound sand.

/*okay, okay, it's "Work is a Four Letter Word"

This would be awesome in so many ways.

"a lot of money, a load of money" Obscure? hint - not from a Smiths song. You win 1 new internets if you know what that's from.

I've heard this one before, why didn't anyone stop it?

Went to England on my honeymoon back in '87. I kept hearing
this wonderful song on the radio. I had no clue who it was.
(Brits are as bad as Americans when it comes to back selling songs)

Ended up at a record store and had to sing part of the song to
help the guy figure it our. He told me it was The Smith's "I Started
Something" Good times!

Neither REM nor the Cure ever broke up or stopped touring for any length of time.

The Pixies are the band that fit the above bill. Although they were hardly past their prime when they went out. They could still be a highly viable group if they didn't hate each other.

Also "Post-baby boomer" = Gen X?

The Soft Boys did a few reunion tours back in the 1990's but they were a bit before the New Wave.

Echo and the Bunnymen did Ocean Rain performances this year.

But I thought Johnny Marr was now the fourth member of the Cribs, while on hiatus from Modest Mouse?

My favorite Johnny Marr band - The The :D

I know it's over, The Smiths are finished..Actually, I could see Moz/Marr doing something one day, but no way Moz and Joyce will ever be in the same room again.

i suppose that that is true. however, there is an ugly moment when every successful rock band has to look it's past in the eye, and essentially own up to further touring as a sort of "oldies" show. REM used to tour, play 8-10 songs off of the new album, throw "can't get there from here" or "finest work song" out there as an encore, and count the receipts. the cure operated the same way. and then, one day, it happened, nobody cared about the new record, and they were forced re-evaluate.

and that's the point where they make the jump into whatever it is the smiths intend to do... get out, play the hits, remind the oldie suburbanites of their wonder-filled days buying clove cigarettes at the galleria... they'll make their money, and in turn give thousands the opportunity to say they "i saw them!".

Ahhh, I was 19 in 1984 and I liked How Soon is Now and This Charming Man a lot. I listed to The 'Mats Let it Be WAY more, though... thankfully.

Flies on the windscreen is my favorite DM song so 2 shiny new internets for you.
The smiths would make a ton of money and make a lot of people happy. It's a win win.

There are a couple of other notable musicians in that video. Ed Obrian and Phil Selway of Radiohead. Thanks for sharing this.
