For a public servant who may be violating the public trust, I can kind of see this as kind of OK.

They do this to private citizens though......scary shiat.

Maybe it is because I grew up in Chicago, but I don't get how Blagojevich as a name causes so much amusement. Everybody and their brother has names with all myriad of spellings. Hell, some of my own relatives have a Ukrainian surname with no vowels except for 'y's. To the subby, you are doing it wrong 'j' is pronounced as 'y' in a lot of slavic names, remember that life is easier.

Blago's made fun of his name being mispronounced for ages. I remember when he was running for governor, one of his commercials was kids mispronouncing his name. America just isn't ready for a president who pronounces his j's as y's.

Hell, I've got a couple friends whose last names don't even include a 'y'. It's hilarious as hell watching someone try to figure out how to pronounce a 7-letter, 2-syllable name featuring nothing but consonants.

I'll put it like this as a Jersey boy out in guido country:

I'm more used to names with no consonants than names with no vowels. Plus, Blagojevich sounds kind of like a noise I'd make after going on a German cruise (new window).

That said, Submitter's headline doesn't hold a candle to the first one (new window) on the situation.

/not that I've never heard names like that before
//they're just funny

This guy should have been under constant surveillance based on the fact that he looks like a stereotypical crooked politician from the movies. As for a warrant, you don't get one if your name is tricky to spell. Sorry, those are the unofficial rules.

Canada wins the politicians with unpronounceable names contest hands down with Borys Wrzesnewskyj, Liberal MP for Etobicoke Centre. Although he is not at all scandalous, which makes him certainly less newsworthy than Blagojevich, in a good way.

It's actually quite easy to pronounce, you just have to pretend half the consonants aren't there... Wrz=r, W=v, yj=i.. Rez-NEV-ski.

If he weren't corrupt, he'd have been working twice as hard to convince everyone he was above board his whole career, just because he has such a smarmy, totally corrupt political operator appearance. Even the hair screams, "I'm corrupt! Grand jury me!"

I guess he just decided that corrupt politician was his destiny when he looked in the mirror.

I like the idea of politicians having zero privacy for their duration in office.

Educates them on the value of privacy. Discourages people from staying in office indefinitely where allowed.

Provides great opportunity to expose corruption.

Bold. And with today's reality media obsession, you could possibly transform politics into entertainment. I like the cut of your jib, good sir.

No doubt a reference to the 16th-18th century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth! Good times.

/Serbia is more "down" than "to the right" really.
//Also was never part of Poland, unlike, say, parts of Ukraine and the Baltics... it was part of the Ottoman Empire though... so if you're going to try to make "humorous observations", call it "Turkey"

During one undercover operation, Flosi said, agents wanted to get into a house that was across the street from a police station. Flosi said he hid inside an empty refrigerator box, and agents posing as deliverymen left the box on the front doorstep, obscuring the view from the police station.

He said he picked the lock from inside the box. Once the door was unlocked, the other agents removed the box and they were able to walk into the home's unlocked door later to plant the bug.

That's some fine police work there, Lou.

I can't understand how subby wrote a better headline than ABC News. His essentially says, "How the Feds listened in on Blagojevich." ABC , however, asks, "How Did Feds Listen In on Blagojevich?"

I don't know, ABC, maybe they used some kind of wire? Tapped his phone? The fark are you asking ME for?

In order to get a federal wiretap, investigators must get approval from the Department of Justice and a federal judge. They must have probable cause that the wiretap will detect ongoing criminal activity, according to former law enforcement officials.

It must be a Chicago thing... I don't think it's very funny either. It's taking the low-road and making a joke because his name is spelled differently. There are so many funny things that could be said about that jagoff.

-His hair.
-His awareness of government tapping.
-His ties to other government officials.

Speaking for Illinoisans, spelling it Blajgoodgieoodavitch is a dead meme.

Exactly. I've been mocking him for years (and occasionally writing to him telling him how much I don't like him, especially as it relates to how he approaches the CTA), but it never really occurred to me that his name was all that bizarre.
