He's right, but he needs to do something to get the members of his own party in line. He and the Dems seem ready to work together, but the Republican minority in the Legislature has basically told the head of their state party to go fark himself.

I am pretty sure this whole mess is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

\No, I don't mean Arnie's acting career

Well, I for one do NOT want to pay more taxes than I already am. If they keep raising taxes in California, the state's tax base will move. Cut spening, stop funding illegals, and go to the feds to get reimbursement for funding said illegals for the past, oh ten years. We would have a surplus to last a lifetime.

DeCypher44: Cut spening

They can't. It's illegal. Most spending by the state of California is mandated by ballot initiative. Which is why they have such a huge problem with the budget every year. So little of it is discretionary for the legislature that every little thing is fought over. And it takes a supermajority to effect the budget in any way.

Besides, most CA state agencies work on a shoe-string budget as it is. Really. They've had 10% of their budgets cut 3 times in the past 20 years.

How about upping enforcement of labor laws, targeting people/businesses hiring illegals--and fining the living f*ck out of the violators? We have California state labor laws that cover this kind of thing, so it's firmly in state jurisdiction. It's a win-win-win: discourages illegals from taking our jerbs, gets legal residents a better shot at (admittedly shiatty) jobs so less unemployment payouts, and the state gets revenue from the fines.

/cuts in service and tax hikes are gonna happen. The hole is deep, and neither alone is going to get us out.

Wonderfully. I'm thinking of buying an island with the money I've saved by socializing the cost of the labor I hire.

How did all those social experiments work out for ya?

And the illegals? They're making a net contribution to the California economy, right?farktards. How about a 100% marginal tax rate for entertainers making over $1 million a year. They think people making $200k should get a tax increase, watch them squeal like a pig when their ox is gored.

So, tell me how Texas handles their illegals? They don't call them wetbacks because the Rio Grande is in California.

/And also: *FWEeeet!* Mixed metaphors--ten yard penalty, repeat comment.

Please put down the Kool-Aide. The state budget has increased steadily during Arnie's reign at a rate far above inflation and population increase and it's not due to spending mandates.

Remove all Republicans: We all need to share the pain.

The solution is what it always has been: more and more taxes.

We are heavily under-taxed in this state and it's time we fix it.

RAR must be under intense final exam pressure from her socialist brainwashers.

/her parents must be so proud as she attemps to burn the ladders they worked so hard to build

This isn't difficult to figure out. California has has a massive influx of undereducated people who use way more in public services than they pay in taxes. To maintain these services they've had raise taxes and fees on the everybody else.

California's population IS going up but it's skilled work force and entrepreneurs are leaving the state because they can no longer afford the tax burden. especially when they can live in Arizona or Colorado and actually live just better on 1/3 less money. Public services are gonna collapse and the people left are gonna suffer because of it. This is what happens when you let unlimited numbers of impoverished people into an area. Yes they're hard working and yes they're just trying to do better but they've overcrowded the life raft and now everybody's drowning. Basic demographics say the poverty rate will skyrocket the tax base will evaporate and this feedback loop is going to continue and a generation from now California will be to Latino's what West Virginia is to white people.

Illegal aliens are the third-rail of California politics. They are the darlings of the left, who see them as an endless mandate for more government, giving them more power, and votes.

Yeah, I said votes. They vote. Anyone can register to vote without any documentation, and vote without photo ID. With so many "sanctuary cities", our state and local governments have done everything possible to encourage and legitimize illegal aliens. They are offered every assistance and protection. Why would they NOT vote? And who are they going to vote for? Their accomplices of course!

If you want to know what has happened to our education, check out the data on EdSource (new window). Pay particular attention to money spent per student, API scores, and the percentage of "English-learners" as you compare school districts. It is pretty clear we're paying a fortune to educate a lot of aliens -- the vast majority of which are illegals, and it's crushing the system. That's just education. Every public and social service is impacted.
