How about an electric jug?
Country music was good when they still had banjos. Ever since it started being marketed to 18-37 females in the 80's it's just sucked.

I found an electric mandolin I'm going to try to talk my wife into letting me get

They should have controller guitar dealies with ~144 buttons. That might make these games interesting.

Lando Lincoln [TotalFark] 2008-12-10 01:12:31 PM
Eh. If people want to play those songs then they can pay to download them. Big freaking deal.

I wish they picked a Dixie Chicks song I knew.

Err.. I mean, WTF?!?!?

They need to offer "Nervous Breakdown" or "Throttleneck" by Brad Paisley. That would be awesome.

And a washboard! Can't have a proper country band without a washboard. It will drive your hot cousin crazy.

Yeah that's all great too, but have you HEARD Brad Paisley's instrumentals? The pop country housewife crap that he records to get on the radio pretty much sucks, but his instrumentals are unreal. Dude is a MONSTER guitar player.

And so are Dale Watson & Matt Hillyer. Also Billy Joe Shaver is one of the best living American songwriters however they have not sold their souls for "pop-country" success

Agreed. Paisley's guitar chops are the only thing that keep him from sliding into total suckitude. I wish he'd say "fark it, I'm rich" and just record instrumental albums from now on.

I take much pleasure in the fact that I am not required to download these songs.

FTA: Country music has certainly soared in popularity in recent years. Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts and Tim McGraw appear alongside Hannah Montana, Alicia Keys and (oddly) the Eagles in Nielsen SoundScan's top 10 selling artists list for 2007.

I farking hate the Eagles, man.

srtpointman 2008-12-10 05:20:44 PM
Plus I believe he's in an album called Mother Pluckers which is also all instrumental. His music is good though. Better than most crossover shiat on country radio.

im certain every one of those guys would love to have brad as their lead guitarists. some of his tunes cross over towards the pop side, but a lot of his tunes pay homage to the REAL country music he grew up hearing. check out the song "flowers". when i listen to it, i swear i can actually hear george jones in my head singing it.

that, and he has a great sense of humor in his songwriting.

but if you wanna do the whole "that's not REAL country", i quietly get off your lawn and leave you alone

Damnit. They're really marketing to the wrong group. Older people are really starting to get into Rock Band. The game should have more classic rock, specifically MORE JOURNEY. Christ, any rock song popular with Karaoke crowds is a shoe-in.

"Shoulda known it when they closed the Opry down
Things are bound to change in that town
You can't grow when you rip the roots out of the ground
Looks like that Nashville rash is getting' 'round

Ain't it funny how things can really change
Rock and roll back in the 70's are country hits today
Breaks my heart to see my heros fadin' away
The victims of Nashville rash, it's Nashville's ways

Help me Merle, I'm breakin' out in a Nashville rashiat's a-looking like I'm fallin in the cracks
I'm too country now for country, just like Johnny Cash
And Buck Ownes and Faron Young and Johnny Bush
Ad Johnny Paycheck and Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn, Mmmmmmm
Help me Merle, I'm breakin' out in a Nashville rash" ~ Dale Watson

Having seen each of those artist (with the obvious exception of the late great Doug Sahm) within the last few months I can tell you that they are doing just fine without Mr. Paisley.

Hell I know at least a dozen guitar slingers here in town that are as good if not better then Mr. Paisley, and By the way you can stay on my lawn as long as you like, you might get a well rounded musical education that way.

secularsage 2008-12-10 10:50:03 PM
All right, subby, you got your laugh. But just know that the banjo is a fine instrument that's a staple of BLUEGRASS music, not country/western.

What's the difference, you may ask? Bluegrass is good music. Country is not.

/Married to a country music fan.
//I don't mind Johnny Cash.
///But man, do I hate almost everything else she listens to.

Lots of good musicians use banjos... regardless of genre.
Alpha Beta Gaga - Air ... Great use of banjo in Downtempo...

Ignorance is the tinfoil hat used by the narrow minded to keep banjos out of their brainwaves

Rock Band and Guitar Hero are both are fun, but I didn't grow up listening to many of the tracks on the games. What I think would ROCK would be;

Guitar Hero - Prince
Guitar Hero - Soul Band
Blues Hero?

Something like those...
