Sorry if it upsets you subby, but John Lennon was not a hero. He was a very talented musician who produced some fine songs, an iconic figure of both admiration and derision, and someone whose life was tragically cut short, yes, but not in any way a hero.

And I hope that it doesn't upset you that people can choose who they see as heroes, as there is a subjective element to the term.

It's perfectly fine that you don't see him as one, but to anyone who has felt his music has helped them in their life, they won't share your opinion.

Never underestimate the impact music can have.

Hero tag is actually for Mark David Chapman, saving the music world from mediocrity.

carmody 2008-12-08 09:58:07 AM
Lennon was a mean jerk to those who loved him best, but for using his celebrity to advance the cause of world peace, he was absolutely a hero.

RIP, John.

Nice troll! You get extra points for spelling and the use of a polysyllabic word.

Agreed. Was never a beatles fan. If Jim Morrison hadn't OD'd in a bathtub, and lived long enough to be shot on 12/08, I'd be more upset.

In what way, exactly? To music? To people around the world? To culture? I fail to see by how any measuring stick that Dimebag Darrell was more important in any way than John Lennon. If you'd care to expand on such a statement without bringing your own personal "Duuuude, Pantera is farking sweet, man" opinion into it, I'd love to hear it.

John Lennon was the shiat.

Dimebag couldn't hold Lennon's jock.

TripSixes 2008-12-08 01:42:39 PM
I went to my first rock concert on Dec 8, 1980 (The Police.) Came home and went to bed and when I woke up John Lennon was dead. Coincidence? Yes, absolutely. What, do you think the world is run by fate or some shiat.

El Freak [TotalFark] 2008-12-08 01:49:47 PM
Dogfacedgod: Dimebag was far more important than that old farking hippie an overrated guitar player with shiatty tone who was in a band that appealed to rednecks and people who think rasslin's real

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2008-12-08 02:00:38 PM
John Lennon would have to be my least favorite Beatle. I'm not a Beatles fan per se, but he pretty much single handedly destroyed the band. Also, he was a dick to his kid, and deafened him. He didn't deserve to get shot. However he was an asshole.

Fark_Q 2008-12-08 02:09:39 PM

Wrong, I had it right the first time around....

and you're from Louisiana, you shouldn't be throwing stones. I am sure you don't have all of your teeth.

RevLovejoy 2008-12-08 03:24:25 PM
Whether or not you love or hate Lennon/The Beatles, you can't deny the impact he/they had. If you're too young to remember, accept that his time was a different era and move along, and let us older Farkers remember his sensless death.

Pretty soon you'll be defending Dimebag to a new crop of kids who think he was a useless dead druggie too!

/that's my lawn, and I believe you're standing on it

kahluakiggy 2008-12-08 03:24:46 PM
If you can't be a hero to your own child, does it really matter what anyone else thinks? And how does being a drugged up redneck make you a hero? Seriously, did either of them actively put their lives on the line for the sake of someone else? Apparently, all it takes to be considered a hero is to be popular and die tragically.

Angel of Death 2008-12-08 03:46:55 PM
kahluakiggy: If you can't be a hero to your own child, does it really matter what anyone else thinks?

Depends on what form your heroism takes. If someone discovers a cure for cancer next week, and it turns out that he's a real shiatty dad, I'm still going to call him a hero. I'm not defending John Lennon's parenting, but there are other things to be admired about him.

That's ridiculous. John Lennon was a musician, not a pharmaceutical engineer. Your comparison is silly.

You have missed the point. My goal was not to compare the putative heroism of John Lennon to the hypothetical heroism of the man who cures cancer. My goal was to rebut the idea that one is not a hero unless one is perceived as such by one's child.

But I wouldn't have said it as politely.

Or was the 'Hero' tag for Chapman?

i have to laugh at the people who bring up dimebag darell and then say how insignificant john lennon's loss is. speaking as a huge pantera fan, you people are obviously the nerdy long haired metal fans that can't possibly get into anything that is in standard tuning. go fark yourselves, and don't talk shiat about the walrus.

/both were huge losses to the world

Damn, what a convincing argument you got there. Now I see that history will remember "Dimebag" Darrell as being more important to music and culture than John Lennon (are you farking retarded?).

Oh and by the way, Pantera farking sucks, even for metal.
