Hah, that's funny- and the new stuff actually sounds like it might be moderately interesting, unlike the massive sewer of shiattastic crap that most hip-hop or remotely related music is these days.

You know, I watched this wanting to hate him. It turns out it was actually kinda funny. That's not just an auto-tuner, there's an echo, delay and some other effects running.

Dude had his vox running through Daft Punk's sound board. Or something.

Wow, he talks repetitive, uninteresting martyr bullshiat off the top of his head through a computer, and probably charges people $100 or more for the privilege of listening to it. If I'd been there I might have thrown something at him too.

As opposed to Keith Richards, who just plays good ol' rock'n'roll that's about sex and drugs, takes care of fans who get out of line in a very businesslike fashion (new window), and goes right back to playing.

sens [TotalFark] 2008-12-08 01:28:19 AM
Ah, Keith!

I was at the Toronto Stones show with 500,000 people in 2003.
Justin Timberlake played a set earlier in the day, but fans who were there to see AC/DC and the Stones didn't take to him very well and pelted him with waterbottles and muffins for most of it. Justin was a trouper and took it well. I never liked his music but I gained a lot of respect for him for the way he handled it, and even more after the show when he was asked about it, and told reporters that if he had been there to see AC/DC and the Stones, he probably wouldn't have wanted to hear himself either.

Anyway, when he came out to sing with the Stones at the end of the night, someone tried to start it up again, but Keith stopped playing, walked to the edge of the stage, dared people to throw something at him, and basically mimed out some scary shiat that with just a couple of gestures said, "this kid is with me, and if you mess with him you're messing with me, and if you're messing with me then I am going to tear your farking heart out with my bare hands." And then he high-fives Justin on his way back to his spot on the stage.

It was pretty awesome.

Here's the video (new window), the duet's no hell but the interesting stuff happens with the first bottle at about 4:30.

If I could travel back in time I'd go back to the time when Cher's producer decided it was a good idea to use the Autotune and give him a swift kick in the nuts.

JacobsJ52 2008-12-08 03:10:50 AM
Love that he was singing that he wasn't going to let sh** get to him....

Andric 2008-12-08 03:13:46 AM
Wow. The song is awful, but that was damned funny.

Garm [TotalFark] 2008-12-08 03:37:42 AM
In the early 90's Fuel opened up for The Rollins band in L.A. Not sure who thought that was a good idea... A lot punks showed up to see Rollins. Anyway Fuel went over like a lead balloon with that crowd and along with the booing there was some spit. The lead singer thought it was a good idea to spit back... The way the stage lights showed the rain of spit from the crowd in response was spectacular.

So torn on this one. A small fan of Kanye, but I thought I might go see him when he comes up to Brisbane to see what sort of show he puts on. I am guessing this is piss-break time for the show (About half-way through), but this is boring as shiat. That being said, he farking owned the guy. So I dunno...

JC_Wicked 2008-12-08 05:56:26 AM
Oh god.. now I know exactly what Colbert meant by "with all that auto-tuning you are barely the voice of your own album."

182 2008-12-08 06:10:17 AM
Dumbass tag? Somebody hits him in the face with an object, he cusses them out, and he's a dumbass?

Actually, that shiat was funny and well-played.

dbho [TotalFark] 2008-12-08 07:58:58 AM
The more "off" you are in key the more you can hear auto-tune. That being said, I have never heard auto-tune that much, ever.

He's the dumbass for cussing him out, while remaining in key, on meter, revealing the software he's using. This shows how much of a no-talent hack he is.

question_dj [TotalFark] 2008-12-08 08:15:37 AM
So he spends 5 minutes singing about how he's not going to let anything get to him and then spends a few more minutes showing how much it really got to him.

Akuinnen 2008-12-08 08:51:39 AM
That is the most horrid thing I've ever heard. I'd rather listen to the musical sound of my cat retching up a hairball.

might be a douchnozzle but that was well played, didn't break his stride kept the song going. He could have pulled an Axl and just stopped the band or walked off but he kept the show going.

/still a douchnozzle

Glitchwerks 2008-12-08 09:03:27 AM
I'm all for vocal effects, but autotune is just obnoxious.

Rhythm & Sound drench their vocalists with effects and processing, but the results are haunting and beautiful. Of course, they work with some great reggae artists.

They are some of the most admired producers in music today. I wish more people would pick up on their production techniques besides Reznor.

Rascuache 2008-12-08 09:03:29 AM
Auto-tuning the bottom line has become a means to meet the end.

towatchoverme 2008-12-08 09:04:39 AM
I'm confused.

Peter Frampton does R&B now?

Kanye really, really needs to up and die...he's an awful person...and he sure as shiat is not the voice of this or any generation.

He's a talentless hack.

kab 2008-12-08 09:56:15 AM
I keep thinking that autotune will go the way of the whammy bar. Yeah, it's a tool, but you sound like an asshole if you need to rely on it.

I'll take imperfect human music every single time, thanks. While you're at it, burn quantizing and drum hit replacement right along with pitch correction..

If you can't play and / or sing on your own two feet, you don't deserve recognition, period.

doctorwormwood 2008-12-08 10:16:23 AM
ok Kayne just got +1

FeedTheCollapse 2008-12-08 10:26:30 AM
god that song was awful. Sorry, Kanye's appeal is that he is at least better than his competition, who is complete shiat. But that might as well have been an Akon song. And I can see using autotune as an instrument (because who is fooled and thinks that's Kanye's real voice?), but goddamn, every song in the same tone?

Uzzah 2008-12-08 11:12:47 AM
Andric: Wow. The song is awful, but that was damned funny.

Exactly. It was kinda like listening to a retarded late-70's Peter Frampton with Tourette's syndrome.

Well put. There was no mystery, hiding, surreptitious application, or stealth in Kanye's use of Atune, and more than Hendrix hiding his use of a Uni-vibe, Crybaby, or Fuzz Face. Using Atune to fix a live peformance is total BS. Using Atune as a willful, obvious effect (no matter how odious to the ear): fine idea.

MadBassist1 I think you've missed something. I'm not commenting on Kanye's performance, though I liked that he worked his tirade into the song (to the fans' delight).

/stomach is feeling queasy from Atune poisoning

Did you really think your comment was so clever you had to make it here AND on youtube?

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-12-08 12:50:53 PM
why the hell do you need auto-tune for RAPPING for cripes sakes???...
sure, SINGING, i could see, but RAPPING?

most people when they rap, don't really have much of a range...
doesn't it only go maybe half, or 3/4 an octave range, if that?

p.s. i saw him on Leno [i think it was Leno] recently, he was pretty cocky/full of himself / bravado, etc. etc.
