Is Blind Faith still accessible?

Slaxl [TotalFark] 2008-12-07 04:16:32 PM
Still works fine here, though I couldn't see the offending album cover, so naturally I googled it to see what the fuss was about. Seems a bit of a stupid idea to have that album cover really, but still, it's not child porn, so people need to stop getting worked up about everything.

There's a great story about the Blind Faith cover. The photographer walked up to a 14 year old girl on the subway and asked her to pose topless for him. She took him home to the parents. He ended up shooting her younger sister instead.

I just can't imagine either (1) wandering the subway asking 14 year olds for topless pictures without getting arrested or worse, (2) having her parents not only approve of the concept, but loan out their other daughter instead.

The hysteria over child sexual abuse has gone way too far. There is no rational reason why the nude human body, or sexuality for that matter, should be a social taboo. Yes, sexual abuse is a real issue that needs to be dealt with, but the backlash of repression and shame is doing real harm, too. In fact, some social scientists have argued that the shame and hysteria surrounding all things nude or sexual (and the false conflation of the two) is one of the biggest facilitators of sexual abuse. If you raise kids telling them they should be deeply and irrationally ashamed if anyone ever sees them naked, then they're a lot less likely to tell you if someone actually hurts them.

I'd always kinda wondered how they got away with Virgin Killer in the first place. I know they eventually had an alt, like they did for Lovedrive and Love at First Sting.

Still not nearly as offensive, as the cover of "Smell The Glove" was.

Yeah, well... the thing is... the girl in that infamous CD cover photo was the producer's daughter. I don't know about you, but I think it's kind of creepy to ask your own daughter to come into the studio and take your clothes off to pose for a CD cover that will be seen by millions of rock fans. I agree that we have some unnecessary hangups about sex, but this guy was clearly missing a few buttons.

I agree that this was probably too sexual for a girl her age, but the thinking here seems to be that any under-18 nudity is ipso facto unacceptable, no matter what the context or intention. I don't think that's a healthy attitude to impress on kids.

Hell no. That's legitimate art, not CP. Nobody ever masturbated to Houses of the Holy.

/well, I did once

Really, I envy the nudists. They have completely detached the body from sex. A body is a body-- it's what carries around your guts and your brain. Sex is sex. But everyone else seems to automatically attach sex to bare skin.

What part of "private website" don't you understand?

I second the suggestion of posting the original Scorpions Virgin Killer cover here on this FARK thread. This suggestion is not intended to be interpreted in any perverted sense. I do so to actually see if a bannination would actually occur. I would find it hypocritical for a mod to approve a headline criticizing Wiki (Nanny State comment)for not allowing it, but they themselves would shiat-can it.

//Not me....I don't want to be banished.

I would also like to add that plenty of fapping was to be had to the tune of the Scorpion's In Trance original cover I owned in junior high. Now that chick was teh hot.

Maybe they just don't want that shiat on here because it's in farking horrible taste.

If I considered myself a fan of the Scorpions, I sure as hell wouldn't want that album cover in my house where people could see it.

Fair enough. And you are probably correct as far as Fark goes.

I considered myself a Scorpion fan back in the day*. I didn't think too much of it then, but now that I'm more mature (read old) I can agree that the cover isn't very tasteful. However, as Churchhill2004 pointed out, too much is made of nudity. If I happened to own the original cover, I would not put it on display anywhere, but I also don't really think it's a big deal either.

* I'm still a fan, but pretty much exclusive to the early era. Ulrich Roth is a badass.

I fell the same way about nudists as I do about self-proclaimed stoners. Yeah, they're right that the moral hysteria surrounding their taboo is baseless, but that only means that it's not a big deal. It doesn't make any sense to build a lifestyle around it.

Ordinarily I'd be right there with you, if the album in question wasn't called "Virgin Killer" with shattered glass centered on the sexual organs of a naked girl who can't be more than 10.

When I first heard about the kerfluffle regarding Virgin Killer, I didn't get it. It was a stupid group pose - then Wikipedophilia showed me the German cover. I kinda see their point.

But then, that's the Scorpions for you. Bunch of foul-smelling pedos.

You can tell from the pixels and by having seen quite a few 10 year old naked girls in your time?

I agree, and I don't think it's a wise idea to make a lifestyle of it, especially given the new holes in the ozone etc. But you're right that the moral hysteria is baseless.
