Among the lawmakers who championed the earmarks are Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.; Arlen Specter, R-Pa.; and Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

Clinton, who is poised to become secretary of state, received nearly $7,000 in campaign donations from the beneficiaries of these earmarks in recent years. Specter got more than $47,000.

Like I needed yet another reason to despise Arlen f*cking Specter.

And to be completely fair, you can't 'buy' Arlen Specter. He's rental property only. But on the upside, once your check clears he'll do anything you ask. He's fairly flexible too, no gag reflex and a clean bill of health. you name the game, he'll play it. No questions asked.

Thanks Arlen! you're doing a heck of a job!

This reminds me of the time I was stopped for a school bus and somebody went around me. I had visions of the driver on trial for mowing down a pack of kids and going to jail. Then I told myself thinking like that was wrong, because nothing was going to happen to him unless he actually hit the kids and it's not worth children getting hurt to teach a bad driver a lesson. Here, I'd like to see the Senators pay, but the only way that will happen is if our troops get hurt and the blame is passed along. So hope we don't suffer biological or chemical warfare and consider voting non-incumbent next time.

the problem is arlen specter has repeated this pattern for the entire duration of his political career. if you want something done and need a senator for hire - call arlen. reasonable rates, no gag reflex.

And he keeps getting re-elected over and over again because he knows that as long as he gives the philly democrats a blow job once every 6 years, he gets to stay a US senator.

Well, there is one good side to this. We do want to be able to produce our own decontamination gear domestically, without relying on a foreign nation (even one such as Canada) for our vital military gear. Keeping the only domestic production of decontamination agents operational is a national security issue.

Though I'd much rather see this as government grants than unnecessary purchase of goods.

JimmyCarter'sSecondTerm: This is the kind of shiat that makes me hate politicians.

The article buries it pretty well, but it looks like the primary reason is to keep the decontaminant factories in America open.

The Canadian product may be better and may even be preferable, but in the event Canada would refuse to sell it to us, we should have some domestic alternative ready. There are simply some areas of society that we should not rely on foreign nations to provide, and I'd say defense is one of those.

However, the money going to those factories SHOULD be going to R&D on a good, domestic replacement for the Canadian lotion.

No, the US decided following the cancellation of the Avro Arrow that an active defense budget in Canada as well as a Canadian defense industry benefited the United States, as a result the United States congress has allowed an exemption for Canadian made defense items to be compete on a level playing field with American contractors.

As a result some of their developments directly benefit us. For example, the development of the LAV III on Canada's part led to the Stryker for the United States. Going the other way, the fact that Canada doesn't have to reinvent what we have already developed allows them to spend more money in alliances with the United States, and working in both nations common defense.

It is a good arrangement for both sides but it relies on reciprocity. There is no reason for the US to reinvent the wheel, the Canadians made a product and its better, if a Canadian contractor can produce it in the quantity needed for the military, then they should get the contract.

Whats more the United States contractors will more then make up for it when we help them upgrade the CF-18s to block C/D, sell them Chinooks or when we sell them F-35s. The defense contractors will need to spend an equivalent amount in Canada for parts manufactured in the US, this will be one way for them to make it up. This especially important since there are a number of big ticket items heading down the pipe for the Canadians. So we sell them planes to keep their troops alive, and they'll help us keep our troops alive if there is ever a chemical attack.

This is what allies do for each other.

Um dumbshiat, the article is about Arlen Spector, a REPUBLICAN.

I saw they put some desert boot cleaning kits on the shelf, but seemed kind of desperate.

Better then it did. You just don't want to have it take a hit in the wrong spot during takeoffs or landings, which are typically the more dangerous times. There are certain cases which it can recover from using its other rotor, others you'd much rather be in either a helicopter or a plane instead of both.

Except it's made for landing or extracting troops into hot landing zones and has no forward-facing guns.

The decontamination kits that they're talking about will likely be issued to rear area units (like mine) that, in the eyes of the Big Army, don't need the latest and greatest gear for years to come. Nice to know we'll at least have a stockpile if we need it.

/My unit still uses the M16A2 rifle, with no optics or rails or anything else. Half of us don't even have three-point slings.
//Who says terrorists are the only ones using Cold War era weapons?

At least you didnt have to buy your own ceramic inserts for your armor before you were deployed...

Oh, and get your family to send you batteries for your optics, working communications equipment, and GPS not made by the lowest bidder.

All the money is going to the Sandbox... everyone else got a rifle and a pair of boots

The M295 powder decontaminant has an almost unlimited shelf life and tolerance of temperatures from -85° to 200°F, it is useable on all materials the soldier comes in contact with, can be combed through hair, used in wounds and is also used to cleanse the C4 rating NBC gear. It is a crucial theater-wide chemical that can even be used spread onto debris and waste material.

It is a superior product in all actuality, it performs very well in adverse conditions and is nearly impossible to harm and works against a wide range of chemicals.

Do NOT confuse this compound with some kind of topical post-exposure cure for NBC agents, it is simply a dry cleansing material to minimize re-exposure.

There is no "new, superior product" on the market.

This product is also approved by both Rock Island and Aberdeen

It's about bipartisan corruption, so I wanted to keep the headline bipartisan.

My first solution to the problem: term limits. The only other thing that would help is requiring everybody to take public funding (insert Obama jab here).

It HAS turbine engines.

And it can't auto-rotate, which is bad news if something bad happens when it's "low and slow".
