The reporter is obviously writing this as a troll.

When the reporter says they celebrated by sacrificing a goat, it means this. They put in an order for a party. The local butcher got an order for meat from the party manager and he killed a goat at his abattoir. Nepal does not have extensive refrigeration facilities and so when the order for meat for a large party comes in, goats have to be killed after the order (sacrificed because all killing for meat is called sacrifice in Nepal. All abattoir killings have a short religious protocol before killing any animal - something to the tune of sorry we're killing this animal but the sacrifice is to feed us etc).

The reporter is obviously trying to spice up the article. I've noticed that every reporter and researcher in Nepal come with the Indiana Jones complex and write lines like that to impress their colleagues back home.

I thought that whenever a baby animal was born you automatically say it's ugly. Like it was just something you say on FARK, but these elephants really are ugly. Wow.

The anchor chain is like a dog leash. You can't have elephants walking around randomly during the night.

It's NOT like they chain the elephants all day. The elephants roam around all day taking tourists around all day. Then, at night they are chained into the anchor and with a pretty lax chain so that they don't wander around or go causing property damage.

A captive elephant life isn't the greatest and they have to be broken if they were raised in the wild but they do get to hang around the jungle and not lead a miserable life - I'd say to the quality of a normal household pet - plus they don't get fixed.
