H.A. are more mob than gang these days. Most people would rather see Hell's Angels in town rather than a gang like the bloods or crips. Why? They run their outfit more like a business and more and more they deal with rivals by incorporating them rather than fighting. They also tend not to do drive-by's, which I can imagine are tough on a two wheeled vehicle.

Fool_Marquis 2008-12-07 12:17:02 PM
I know three HA members:

One was my pediatrician when I was growing up, one is my dentist, and the third was my next door neighbor. He was a middle-manager for a IT firm last time I saw him.

All three are a bit past the "hookers and blow" age.

We kind of screwed ourselves when the FBI cleaned out the mob perhaps a little too efficiently. The good old criminal outfits used to have standards. They'd kill each other, but they had firm rules against killing innocents. Not always because of morals, but more because they were concerned with bad press and the like. These days the homeboys in Detroit can't think past the last line of crack they did.

You should check out their history in Quebec. It includes a whole lot more of the drive-bys, bombings, shootouts, and assassinations than that described in your scenario. The Quebec biker war got pretty messy.

I'm familiar with it. The Mafia had it's nasty days too. That turf war was localized in Quebec, ghetto thug violence is widespread and has no end in sight. In fact, it only promises to get worse.

I'd rather see neither, but if given the choice, I'd rather have a Hell's Angels chapter in town rather than a Bloods, Crips, or Sur-13

"A few weeks later, one of the tow- truck drivers was pulled over and beaten by unidentified men. He has refused to make a statement to police.

Less than three weeks after the raids, the safe expert's factory was badly damaged by a deliberately lit fire. No one has ever been charged.

In late 2003, a Richmond lawyer who tired of acting for a member of the Hells Angels eventually sacked his client. Following the dispute came the almost inevitable payback -- three attempts to set fire to the lawyer's office."

Geeze, no wonder these guys are so hard to catch. It must take a genius to figure out where they're going to be.

Whenever I watch serial crime dramas it always amazes me that in reality it is so hard to catch these lifelong psychopaths who seem to break the law at every opportunity.

Barbecue Bob: Why do people insist on joining a group in their attempt to be a unique rebel?

People have a psychological need to feel special, but as a member of a million year old highly gregarious social species their instincts tell them that to have that they must be in some kind of exclusive tribal group. Kind of sad, really.

Anyway, who wants to sponsor me for Total Fark?

The Mob is not "cleaned out", but they are definitely smarter with how they do business.

The shame is, that if drugs were legalized, a good chunk of the gang problem would end.

No illegal goods, no need for a black market. They go back to bicycle chains and switchblades and just being a pain in the ass.

You can do a lot of things on two wheels.

I think it's because they're all old people, and how much physical damage or property damage can old people do? Crips + Bloods + the old Latin Kings (are they still around?) = young. Hells Angels = Old farts.

If you want to do an insurance scam or a pyramiding government welfare scam involving business licenses and/or farming property -- go to old people. Right? Unless they're in the pedo bear business, the only sex they've got going is swing clubs with other old people..... and it doesn't matter how crazy and wild it gets, no one cares about what old people do with one another, right?

Hell's Angels are like Republicans right now: in need of a youth (and diversity) transfusion, but staunchly against both.

Difference is, in my country they come for the bikers because they fight each other with RPGs, handgranades, carbombs etc.
When you're that kind of segment of the public, you don't get to whine about police attention.

So, their strategy is to fight every charge against bikers (excuse me aussies - "bikies")(even the geekiest american is shaking his head) and tie up the court system with delays and appeals.

My conservative handbook says that since they're not muslims, I'm totally behind them on this.
