Without reading the article, I was going to say head south.

DNRTFA, but that sounds delish!

LadyHawke: DNRTFA, but that sounds delish!

It is. It's like a sweet beef, or a slightly more beef like chewey pork.

Tastes good man.

How do you send Christmas stuff to other people without packaging?

It would be nice if the season wasn't such a waste orgy. My living room always looks like a farking paper factory exploded every christmas morning. My mom kind of goes apeshiat for the holidays.

Did not RTFA but I think reindeer chili would be better than stew. Though I think the stew sounds pretty good too.

Apropos of nothing--my brother-in-law makes bear jerky for the holidays.

It's not bad.

It might sound mildly taboo, but I had reindeer sausage in Norway. It was delicious and the most memorable meat I have eaten, excluding the endangered soft shelled tortoise (ok, not the last part).

BalugaJoe 2008-12-06 08:44:33 PM
Had it in Alaska .. not bad.

Not an article about smoking up with the relatives for the holidays?

This holiday I'm taking the hippie-approach. Re-usable boxes as wrapping, and if it's too big for a box, newspaper from the kitchen.

If you don't like it, fark you, I'm taking your sweatervest back to Northern Reflections.

/Only have had compliments on it.
//The idea, not the sweatervest.

Bare jerky? Sounds a bit risque. Is it anything as unattractive as bare geeky? Do you make it in your mom's basement?

Made with Reindeer, Corn, Green peppers, Chili, (sigh) Onions... well, it's an old recipe around here.

We throw our old Christmas trees in the far corner of the back yard. They work themselves out eventually.

brantgoose 2008-12-06 10:16:04 PM
No, seriously. Reindeer stew is exceptionally green, provided the reindeer is killed within 100 miles of where you live, without too much of that "rich guy" over-equipment crap--like SUVs taken off road, or enough gear to equip an expedition to discover the source of the Nile.

If God had meant for Sports Utility Vehicles to be used for sport or utility, he would have made them big, cheap pick-up trucks. Don't delude yourself. They're just your parents' station wagon piled two deep.

Flying into Labrador or the Yukon to kill one isn't green, but neither is flying McCain's frozen pizza into Labrador or the Yukon.

I'm a liberal but I'm not anti-hunting. I grew up in New Brunswick, Canada. Everybody hunts and fishes (except me). The conservatives hunt, fish and butcher, the liberals gather nuts and berries and arugula and do the cooking.

That's the way it works in Heaven. The way it works in Hell is... well, look around you.

A tourist brings about $1,500 into the Province for each salmon he or she catches. That's a mighty expensive salmon seeing as you can buy poached salmon (you still have to cook it yourself, though) from the Indians for $1.50 or so a pound--out of season--but getting there is half the fun.

Well, not really (I'm talking New Brunswick--non-service economy needs a bit of work, yet--another 100 years should do it). But you can make your own fun.

Stay off the roads until you're sober.

Reindeer's yummy. I used to travel to Finland for business and ate at Ravintola Lappi every time. Reindeer with lingonberries. Yum!

FAST WAY TO GREENIFY YOUR HOLIDAY:

Burn everything combustible so it doesn't wind up in the landfill, thus adding CO2 to the atmosphere and helping plants to grow.

Global warming is a hoax but 3 billion people without enough to eat are definitely real.

If you buy a tree, please don't buy a sprayed/pretinseled tree. That stuff doesn't go in mulch.

From TFA: "Use LED lights, they consume 95% less energy ...."
And be sure to DON'T DARE THINK about the resources used in the manufacture of those things. (But here's a hint: price!)

Being Green means never having to think.

Polyhazard 2008-12-07 02:14:33 PM
I am very dissappointed about the lack of reindeer-related content in that link.

I read that as "Greenfly" and was immediately concerned about rogue terraforming devices destroying our galaxy.
