What an idiot. It's fools like this that create undue hazards for pilots. This isn't a "small rural airport", but rather a class D airport with an operating control tower. He could have easily taken out runway lights, PAPIs (approach slope indicators), or the localizer antenna...

It's fools like this that make me appreciate the fences (which I dislike otherwise) which seem to be going up around more and more airports.

This airport is 1.5 miles from where I live, in the same township. It's home to one of the few college programs with an air traffic controller major. The air traffic control tower is also operated by the college (Community College of Beaver County).

That being said, it isn't one of those dinky airports with a grass runway. Private jets and an occasional biplane fly over my apartment all the time.
