Yeah, I'm pretty sure she can afford the pay cut...

Rethorn 2008-12-06 10:32:44 AM
In this economy, who can?

Edsel 2008-12-06 10:43:44 AM
What job would she do, anyway?

Wat?

She's worth over a billion dollars. I think she can afford a pay cut. It's the crowds of vapid screeching fans that she doesn't want to give up.

jcooli09 2008-12-06 10:46:21 AM
What ever gave anyone the impression that she wanted a public sector job? I don't recall anything of the sort.

JohnnyC 2008-12-06 10:49:11 AM
She can afford just about anything she wants.

This headline is so leftist that it's making me rage and I just ordered an American flag with eagle for my rear window from eBay that was made in China.

/farked and balanced

I think the problem would be more of divesting herself from the things she owns, like her television network. Unless she was going to put it in some sort of blind trust ala Cheney.

Who the fark is Oprah?

Silovik 2008-12-06 11:09:27 AM
No longer seeking the middle-aged white woman vote, Obama stops returning Oprah's phone calls, proving once again her uselessness to anyone that doesn't spend all afternoon watching soaps and getting fat while the kids are at school.

low.dose 2008-12-06 11:12:16 AM
I would like to inform everyone that I too am not seeking a job with Obama, however it would be a pay increase for me. Translation: I am poor and dumb...

Muta 2008-12-06 11:15:01 AM
I'll take that job Obama was going to offer Oprah.
I am probably just a qualified.

My question is who would even consider her for a posistion. She is not qualified to do anything in the realm of politics and national issues. Her sense of importance is so GD overwhelming.

1. Am I the only one who would run away with Oprah, and fark her whenever she demaned, if she would let me live in one of her mansions and not have to work?

2. If she were to take a job with Obama, she could work her way toward being the first Black female President.

3. I'd totally vote for her if Angelina Jolie were her running mate. (Angelina Jolie *really has* more foreign policy experience than most other candidiates!)

4. Numbered lists are a cry for attention.

Only the media and idiots have ever considered her for a position. I sincerely doubt any politician, Democratic or Republican, thought Obama was going to pick her for anything.

She'd probably make a pretty good press secretary. That's about the only position I can think of that she would be qualified to hold.

Not really, she has her own press secretaries.

Subby: Oprah: "I'm not seeking job with Obama." Translation: "I can't afford don't want to take a pay cut"

Actually, she probably does have more power and a much more far-reaching influence this way than she would in any sort of political office. It's actually the same reason Rush won't run for office either.

/thinks O and Rush both need to stfu

nightronin: Not really, she has her own press secretaries.

I just meant in terms of what the press secretary actually has to do. IE: Stand up on stage, answer questions, and crack a joke now and then.

Politically, it would be a dumbass appointment, but I think she could do the job.

Derwood 2008-12-06 12:43:53 PM
Oprah has stated repeatedly that she has no interest in a political position. Not News indeed

That's less about Oprah Winfrey's qualifications herself and more about the speaker's unease towards Oprah Winfrey the icon.

Not being a lawyer or a lobbyist (and that is what is considered qualified today, right?) didn't stop Reagan, Schwarzenegger, or Ventura. And it shouldn't have. On the flip side, it also didn't stop George Dubya. Thanks being born with a silver spoon.

Oprah can do whatever she wants, and frankly she's done a lot of good. This higher bar set for Oprah Winfrey is appalling. Anyone can be anyone in America. That's the way it's supposed to work. If you've got the support you can do it. You shouldn't have to be a lawyer or a lobbyist or a land developer to attain higher office.

Let Oprah do it if she wants to, without any code talk for 'she's not qualified'. She can't be any worse than the 'highly qualified' gang who shiat on America the past 8 years, can she?

SockMonkeyHolocaust 2008-12-06 02:17:36 PM
Whatevuh, so long as Jesse Jackson and Professor Grif don't get anything I'll be cool with whoever he picks for whatever.

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2008-12-06 03:05:36 PM
What would she do? Pick out books of the month? Give away prizes? Stand around in awe of the glory of Obama? Be a sort of MC/Master of Ceremonies at White House Parties?

I mean, really, what would be able to do for the Obama?

Oprah would make an awesome addition to the Supreme Court, and would totally balance out Clarance "Pubic Hair on the Coke can" Thomas.

I got this image of her putting one of her pubes on a coke can and giving it to Clarance for the lulz.

Do you know any women?

Obviously not all of them are up in Oprah's cooze, but there are legions of women out there that would certainly do her evil bidding. I bet they probably think she's make a great insert the blank (Hell, they'd vote for her for President)

She's not really cut out for government work.

Also, she would have a conflict of interests with all of her holdings or something.
