TexasPeace: Who will be in the cabinet?

RON PAUL! That's who and he'll be Secretary of State and if anyone tries to pull any crap he'll go over there and singlehandedly defeat the whole enemy country. Kim Jong Il of North Korea is already crapping his pants.

Oh, please, sweet merciful Jebus make this true! I truly believe that Mike Huckabee is a decent man, but he's not presidential in the least. Palin? BWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA! We've had enough retards to last us for the rest of the 21st Century, thankyouverymuch.

Go for it, GOP (Group Of Pricks)! We will not have seen such a humiliating defeat from an opposition party since Mondale.

I'm gonna party like it's 1984.

Taking an unfair tax system and calling it FairTax™
does not a fair tax system make. I call it the
"stop taxing the rich and tax the poor instead"
proposal, and Huckabee is an idiot for supporting it.

Running this ticket equates to sticking to your guns even when they've been turned straight at your face.

If the entire party ditched the social conservatives, religious fundamentalists, bigots and warmongers then concentrated on reducing the size of the feredal government in non-essential areas they would win in a landslide.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-12-06 12:23:32 AM
This is why it's a great idea to blindly support your precious team no matter what. that way they get used to doing whatever they want and by the time you realize that you don't like where they're going it's too late.

Great job, guys. Be proud of what you helped build.

It is vital, and I mean vital that they win. Look at how the Bush administration farkups stigmatized the Republican party. Now imagine Huckabee and Palin farking up a thousand times worse, their candidacy having been built entirely on their appeal to Christian nationalists.

Naziism was only permanently discredited after the world saw what they did with power once they got it. Of course it was not worth the terrible cost, but at least they will never again achieve power in any civilized nation. Likewise the only way I think that Christian Nationalism can be strangled in the crib is if the American public is given a taste of what it really entails in the form of a 4 year Huckabee/Palin term.

Zamboro: Likewise the only way I think that Christian Nationalism can be strangled in the crib is if the American public is given a taste of what it really entails in the form of a 4 year Huckabee/Palin term.

Wrong.

The way to strangle Christian Nationalism in its crib is to PREVENT 4 years of Huck/Palin.

I'd instead say that the way for "Christian" Nationalism to be halted in its tracks is for the red letter Christians to go and counteract the vile twisting of the faith required to turn Christianity into a militant wank fest for the rich and powerful.

as big of a joke as both of them are, I wouldn't completely laugh at the possibility of that ticket and the probability of it winning. shiat, we're still talking about Palin. Granted, yeah, it's still fun to mock her, but by that measure, she should've completely faded away by now.

Thankfully, Obama would have to be a serious, sub-GWB fark-up for them to pull off a victory.

The slogan they could use is "Dumb and Dumber" and use the theme music from the movie, (which I did not see, but I assume there was theme music), for the theme song of thier campagin.

Or maybe it should be DUMBEST AND DUMERER!

I have no idea why I hold on to my Republican registration.

I guess it would be like if Ferrari were bought by Pontiac. In the years after the purchase, Pontiac would only slowly erode the overall quality of the Ferrari brand. Regardless, people would still look at the Ferrari name and say, "Well, Pontiac owns them NOW; but they used to be the most sought after cars. Maybe someday Ferrari will strike-out on its own again."

In my scenario, at what point does that optimism/denial finally die/set-in?

Um, at what point were the Republicans the equivalent of Ferrari? Under the crook Reagan? During the Harding/Coolridge/Hoover parade of losers?

or are you talking so far back in the past (Teddy? Lincoln?) that the party bears no similarities at all except the name?

You could pull a scarecrow out of a cornfield, stick a Republican button on it, and it'd still get 40% of the vote.

Same is true for putting a Democratic button on it. People vote party lines more than they vote candidates.

Isn't the population shift away from rural toward urban areas though? Giving traditional dem stronghold states great population and thus electoral power?

You're an angry person. That's too bad. Just because we presumably disagree about politics doesn't mean you can't take a lighthearted look at my prior post. And to answer your question, if we look to the American "model" Republicans, I like Harding, Goldwater, and Paul. Yes, they were flawed. Like many other presidents, they were human. But I generally like the idea of restricted, noninterventionist federal government. Above all, I'd say my appeal for Republicanism relates to the governmental model that it encapsulates (an elected few represent their respective STATES at the national level).

Words don't have any meaning to conservatives like poopstain. Their definitions change daily to fit whatever argument they want to make.

Furthermore, perhaps (and I could be wrong) not every conservative/Republican changes definitions to suit their purposes
