He will serve in a new position called Chief Economist and Economic Policy Adviser.

Yeah, I was wondering, why does the VP have an economic adviser? I guess none did until now.

I find the "Five Dollar Footlongs" jingle guy to be far more insidious than any jewelry jingle I've ever heard.

It's more of a thematic annoyance. The guys that went to Jared are romantic titans; those that did not, buffoons of the highest order.

When Jared seems to be basically a non-mall-store Zales/Kay, it's a bit pretentious, and makes one less likely to shop there, as opposed to wanting to burn the place down.

"Luna gardenia de plata,
Que en mi serenata,
Te vuelves canción,
Tú que me viste cantando, me ves hoy llorando,
Mi desilusión,

Calles bañadas de luna,
Que fueron la cuna de mi juventud,
Vengo a cantarle a mi amada,
La luna plateada de mi Xelajú,

Luna de Xelajú,
Que supiste alumbrar,
En mis noches de pena,
Por una morena de dulce mirar,

Luna de Xelajú,
Me diste inspiración,
La canción que hoy te canto,
Regada con llanto de mi corazón,

En mi vida no habrá,
Más cariño que tú,
Mi amor,

Porque no eres ingrata,
Mi luna de plata,
Luna de Xelajú,

Luna que me alumbró,
En mis noches de amor,
Y hoy consuelas mi pena,
Por una morena que me abandonó..."

Which is why we're now bailing out a bunch of foreign car makers and laughing as every other country's stocks fall while ours soar- OH WAIT! We're actually doing exactly the opposite of those things, almost as if the exact opposite of what you said is true!

Don't worry. We will. And we are.

Americans as a whole are fat, lazy, and not particularly intelligent. The only reason we're '#1' in the world is because we won World War II. We don't really deserve our pedestal; we don't have a natural advantage over anyone. I guess maybe we have a ton of arable land, but that's about it.

Totally. After those union leaders flew their private jets to Washington when they were asking for a bail out I just can't support them anymore. We should give their jobs over to those poor CEOS who're only making a dollar a year.

How we responded to 9/11, I saw what we are. We do not deserve what we have, and the hard justice of the world is going to take it now.

We just gave a trillion dollars, no string attached, to bankers to prop up their fake wealth, and all I hear on the news 24/7 is how the unions are motherfarking taking our tax dollars. And the politicians love it. Keep working people blaming other working people. And the sheep will. But when I want a 5% raise on capital gains, thats class warfare you ingrateful plebe.

I think the big 3 are begging for about 30 billion in loans right now. That's it. Did the bankers have to sit down at all? I don't remember it.

Success in WW2 wasn't the *cause* of American world domination, but was a *result* of having a continent larger than Europe to basically rape for natural resources, along with neighbors who are too weak to either resist us or to be any kind of serious threat... and then being given 150 years all to ourselves off in the corner.

Oh, and FYI... try telling a Russian, a Brit, or a Canadian that America won WW2 all on its lonesome. I'm sure at all certain that they'll be ammused.

We already had a socialized banking industry...well, to be more specific, a corporatist banking industry, as you had the Federal Reserve (government) working hand in hand with the banks (private industry). It's moved now toward socialist as the government actually has an ownership share in the private industry. Not really a big jump if you think about it.

Now, partly nationalized vehicle production? That's a new step, even for us.

I don't mean 'won' in terms of doing it on our own, I mean 'won' as in taking the least amount of damage while inflicting the most. The American mainland was never once attacked aside from a few Japanese balloon bombs. Compare that to Russia or Great Britain, who, although being on the 'winning' side, still suffered greatly to do so. We won on the economic front as well as the military front, which was what I was trying to point out.

I haven't 'trolled' since maybe February, and I've always thought alts are for pansies. I would like to think most of my posts are pretty reasonable, if for nothing else because they call out things that most people don't care to think about. I'm just overly bitter sometimes I guess :)

Bull. You were trolling well into October. If I remember you even invoked William Ayers right up until the end. And as I pointed out to you at the time it was pointless becuase there's always a glut of trolls during election years and you weren't doing a really exceptional job of it. Our banking system is socialized. Nationalizing the banks would be a step up from where we are. This was simply a handout. A trillion dollar handout.

Take 30 billion and loan it to the big 3. Or nationalize it. The money to the banks helped nobody but shareholders and the banks. Few jobs were saved, as the banks were not forced to lend any money as part of the deal, and they haven't. Capital is still frozen.

You can give that to the banks, give a 30-40 billion loan to the autos. Jobs are getting worse. We lose those, we are truely fukked. People don't think it is there problem, but it is.

I thought we were having a calm, rational discussion about that push poll and whether or not one could say Obama really 'launched' his political career in his house. I was saying it wasn't a totally unfair characterization. I think everything just gets blown out of proportion during the elections.

Not exactly. The money was used to buy either ownership shares in the banks or to purchase assets with declining value. Blame the Federal Reserve; fractional reserve banking gives us both the highs and the lows. Not bailing them out would be a lot worse.

You live in the only place in America where transit is practical. Due to high population density the government only has to pay about $100 on top of your $80 to move you around.

In the Boston area, your $80 month would be enabled by $150 in operating cost subsidy plus $100 or so in construction cost subsidy.

Well, the banks hired a Treasury Secretary to plead their case. It costs a little more, but it really makes the difference.
