Any rational person can see that if you are given $80K, you can subcontract out $15K of it to make a decent, high-bandwidth/unlimited-hits website complete with user forums, blogs, and donation-via-CC/paypal buttons. Another $5K to have a pro design your website with nice (albeit stock) graphics.

Then pocket $60K. There are hundreds of online services to choose from that can get you up and running in a day. How hard can it be?

Plus you could make all that money back by charging $5 a month to be a total Rangeler

Big surprise!

Rangel learned his tactics and ethics from another expert Harlem congressman scumbeg, Adam Clyton Powell.

I've looked at both http://www.house.gov/rangel/ and http://charlierangel.org/

They're both a bit cringeworthy in terms of design choices(time new roman ftl) both they're not the horrifficly bad pages I was expecting. They're certainly worth more than the $100 their 'expert' quoted.

Not worth $80,000 but there has been a fair amount of work done and not money for nothing.

Looking at the first link, I looked at the Cascade Style Sheet at http://www.house.gov/rangel/style_rangel.css

The page is all done in tables and the content of TDs are in Times New Roman. There are site-specific codes (the ones with the period before the name, like .HeaderFont). So if anyone wanted to change the whole design of the site, they could just go into the CSS document and change the look of the font. A few minutes of work would change the appearance for however many pages there are that use this Sheet.

Links are gray and the underlining disappears with the mouse-over...

A:link
{
TEXT-DECORATION: underline;
color:#666666;
}
A:visited
{
TEXT-DECORATION: underline;
color:#666666;
}
A:hover
{
TEXT-DECORATION: none
}

...nice use of CSS, but definitely not $80,000 worth, if that was just for the initial design and small intermittent updates.

What I mean to say is: I'm a web and graphic designer with experience in Dreamweaver and Photoshop / ImageReady, and this is the going rate! I can has job?

What makes this a particularly scary revelation is that Rangel is currently the chairman for the House ways and means committee. Not only is he currently embroiled in a tax scandal, but now we hear that he's a standard issue corrupt politician abusing his position to take care of his family....all of which rather makes it difficult for Rangel to act with any sort of authority when it comes to tax plans and budget matters. How can we POSSIBLY trust that this guy has our best interests in mind? Answer: we can't. And if you're honest with yourself and not a partisan hack you'll admit that this is a big problem.

Can we page the apologists over from the NRO thread about this exact same thing and get them to explain why this is a good thing for Democrats? Or that because the "other side" does it, it's OK?

I don't understand it. The "side" everyone is talking about is the US. We're not well served by people like this no matter if they have an R or a D after their name on TV.
