Is this album going to have choruses that aren't just loops from the single's verses?

I'm very happy to say that I have no idea what this shiat is.

I have to agree with Ice T on the subject of Soulja Boy. This kid is a joke, nothing he does could ever be considered brilliant, and I hope that he just fades the fark away.

This guy shows just how easy it is to resample a beat from someone else, repeat the same mumbling bullshiat over and over, and make money from the masses of idiots in this country.

Ditto. Maybe I'm too old to be hip anymore, but that's some of the gayest shiat I've ever seen.

I don't believe he sampled anything in that. People have pretty much identified each of the Fruity Loops presets he used in that tune. I imagine you could sit a few people familiar with the program down and identify every bit of his album. They'd probably be able to recreate it note for note, but I would never wish such punishment on anyone.

If you're not familiar with FL, it's pretty much a "My First Music Software Production Tool." It's great in the hands of experienced users, but generally not used by most serious producers because of the stigma it carries, and because stuff like Ableton Live or Reason is so much better.

Soulja Boy will be around as long as he sells CD's to kids who don't know better. As much as I hoped Ice T's words would ring true, this kid is still around. Since he posts a bunch of tripe on YouTube, he can continue to market himself for free. As long as the record execs are pushing that shiat on radio stations to play, we're stuck with it.

I'd really love to his recording contract. He's probably sold his soul, skin, and ass to a record label for the next decade.

Fonaibung 2008-12-04 06:59:49 PM
I normally like club hip-hop (Ying Yang Twinz, Petey Pablo, Lil Jon, etc) but Soulja Boy is pretty shiatty.

That ain't got sheeeeet on my new single "2 minutes". The beat is a sample of 'crank that'....

Crank That is 100x better than his second single off that album entitled 'Ya Trick Ya'

I nominate this for the new RickRoll because it is one of the funkiest songs ever. People would love it every time.

I respectfully disagree. I would also like to point out I mentioned another software title in that statement as well. Care to counter that FL is better than that?

I love FL Studio - if you know what you're doing musically, it doesn't matter what tool you use, as long as it works.

Tom Ellard uses FL and even BT has recommended FL. However, you must admit, FL has become synonymous with really bad rap music. Like Soulja Boy.

I am amazingly unaware of who this person is, I hear the name mentioned in entertainment news often, but again, I have no clue what he sings/raps/performs. I intend to go to my grave, keeping it that way.

I have no idea who they are. I use it, in conjunction with various plug ins, dedicated music studio hardware and actual instruments to do a mix of indie/synth/grunge-pop/acoustic stuff. It's just a sequencer like any other - it's how you use it that counts. I just find it easy to use, as it was the first one I tried and got used to.

Ellard is obscure, although I know plenty of Farkers know him. BT is Brian Transeau, a very proficient electronic producer, even if he did produce some N*Sync. :p

Anyway, use what you like, I wasn't here to diss FL, but it has become a bit tainted in the eyes of some people because of the ring tone rap crowd. Mostly because they aren't doing everything you are. They just drag a few preset instruments over and click a few times and have something they think is a work of "art."

woogs 2008-12-04 10:19:19 PM
In my perfect world, here's the flowchart if you ever want your music to be heard by more than your immediate relatives:

First, can you sing? If you can (well and truely sing) congratulations, you're free to do whatever you want (as long as you sing while you do it).

Failing that, can you play an instrument? If you can, then you can be backup for somebody who does sing, you can get together with other non-singers and do instrumentals, if you're good enough you can break out solo. But the yap must remain shut.

Failing that, you can produce some form of electronica. However, that means keeping your yap shut (you have to sample a real singer if you want lyrics) and staying at least 100' away from real instruments at all times.

In my head, this is about the best way to terminate rap/hip-hop whatever the kids are calling it, while doing minimal damage to other genres.

/It still puzzles me
//You can't sing, compose, or play an instrument
///WTF are you doing on the radio?

No one can ever counter Ableton being better than FL. Ever.

^ on a pure production stand point i mean. Of course you can always say that you know how to use FL better and it does better for you...

As someone who at 28, sometimes revisits music he wrote at 17, sometimes the rawness of youth produces the goods, sometimes it produces the seed. I wrote many more songs then compared to now, but now I have the recording/arranging ability I didn't have then; so I like to combine the two. I write less now, but what I do write is more consistent - then it was, as with most young people, an outpouring - but luckily I now get to choose what to develop and what to leave behind.

Ah, who am I kidding. I love all of my old shiat, no matter how bad it is.

How is this kid still in business? I knew things were at their worst when a friend and I turned a corner at a party, and there was a line of girls doing what they called the soulja boy dance, whatever the hell that was.
I was 25, and the people at the party were within a year or two of that.....and they were doing the mtv dance to that song.

/We laughed so hard at them they stopped dancing then went out for a smoke
//why are people so dumb?
