Give the guy a break! It takes time to convert from a Beta camcorder to DVD and there's going to be an inherent loss of quality.

i can't remember the last time i've seen a pre-recorded speech come back completely out of focus and the framing was pathetic. did he shoot it on his ibook?

Can someone explain how this warrants the fascist tag? Looked like a collection of facts to me.

Thats what you get for taping something using a camcorder you bought at Walmart on Black Friday.

wow. Canada really does suck. Thanks for showing us your politicians are just as crappy Canada!

That's not fair. Do you think it's easy to make tapes?

echoucha 2008-12-04 02:42:22 PM
I was hoping Dion would have Layton beside him for the speech, speaking every fourth word...

El_Swino 2008-12-04 02:42:46 PM
It is rather pathetic that they dropped the ball so badly. Ottawa is a pretty media-saturated city. Finding a freelance shooter and a couple of hours in an edit suite is a piece of cake. It's amazing that they didn't have a short list of go-to people for this sort of thing.

Sounds like rather than spending a couple hundred bucks on a professional, they had some aide use his consumer Fisher-Price My First Video Camera to shoot a speech using the on-camera mic. That's pretty darn ig'nant there.

Hey, lay off him, man. Considering how broke the Liberal party is, we're lucky he didn't deliver it on 1970's-style 8mm film.

I'd just like to use this opportunity to appologize to my American breathren for having complained about their horribly long and messy election campaign. What is happening here has gone full retard and now there's no turning back.

THIS. How farking superficial are you, subby? I was listening to what Dion actually had to say, not admiring the production values. Geez, a political crisis on our hands and some of you are whining about video quality. Go watch a movie where things go boom and leave the politics to grownups, then, all right?

I'd take realistic over slick anyday, especially Harper's creepy, dumbed-down intoning of cliches.

TheSpaceAdmiral [TotalFark] 2008-12-04 02:59:28 PM
One of my favorite jokes was done by Mike Bullard (believe it or not) several years ago, when he still had that show of his. It went something like this:

"I think the Liberals will win the upcoming election. You can tell by the campaign literature they're distributing. The Liberals have bright, colorful pamphlets with catchy slogans written on them, whereas the Conservatives have big, bulky, black-and-white pamphlets labeled 'The National Post'."

Because a group that can't organize the production of a simple video is a group who probably won't be able to organize a whole farking country?

I voted Liberal primarily for the person running in my own riding, but I have to say - I don't think this guy should run a three-legged race let alone a country.

No, no, not a problem at all! I'm much enjoying the sweatervest/Stephanie Dionne/poutine-eating separatists jokes by our Canuck brethren.

It soothes the withdrawal from our mavricky 2-year election cycle.

Plus, it helps me feel like America isn't quite as abnormal as I thought it was. It's like Alberta's the Texas of the North! (Wait, would that make Ontario Canada's California? Would BC be like Oregon?)

Smelma_Kayak 2008-12-04 03:02:21 PM
The Conservatives must be rather desperate for ammunition if they're resorting to this type of thing.

"You poopy head! we had to wait FIVE minutes for your video! And it wasn't pretty! WAAH!"

Anyway, we now have a prorogued Parliament so I'm sure Harper and his Rove clones will have lots of time to think up some new smears.

/PM Harper, putting the "rogue" back in "prorogue".

ernst_k: Because the quality of a recording is the BEST way to judge a leader. Not, let's say, their actions in Parliament.

No, but not being able to pull off a five-minute, pre-taped address to the nation in Canada's Capital during the biggest political crisis in recent memory is indiciative of what kind of lack of organization the Liberal Party is suffering from.

Dion had a chance to come out on top in this, and he ended up looking like a rank amateur.

It reenforces what most of Canada already knows about Dion, and why he lost to the Conservatives and no one in the party has any confidence in him as a leader.

Besides, this whole rebuttal to Harper's address reeks of a pathetic "me too" stunt.

Face it, the Liberals blew it. As a previous reporter said, finding a freelance shooter in Ottawa to do it right is the easiest thing in the world (10 plus years working in the TV industry). Instead, they taped a poorly-shot address on a commercial-grade camcorder and didn't even know where to take it once it was done.

Pitiful, and embarassing... and I'm not even a supporter of Dion.

It's similar to how you won't hire a person who came to an interview disheveled and unclean; it reflects on their mindset and professionalism.

eldunko 2008-12-04 03:04:33 PM
I bet they'll try to spin this as discrimination.

"The working class people in this country, cannot afford access to 'special equipment.' We clicked on the highest quality in Windows Movie Maker for Christ's sake! Then they had the nerve to give us the run around, saying we were in the the 'wrong location.' They escort us into the CBC building, like CRIMINALS! This is a conservative conspiracy, I tell you what!"

For all the shiat America gets, we don't suspend Congress or have fistfights in session (Thailand). We may not be good, but we're nowhere near worst.

You didn't actually bother to listen to what they were saying, did you? Dion and the others "pulled off" a substantive speech to the Canadian people. Harper's weird three-minute commercial for himself made HIM look like the rank amateur, no matter how shiny his video was.

Harper's a farking coward who ran crying to the Governor-General to protect him from the parties he's spent the last two years bullying.

Well then, let's see. Alberta is unquestionably our Texas. BC has to be our Washington (state) not just for geographic proximity but also for its dirty hippy indie music scene. Manitoba and Sask are definitely our Oregons. Ontario, I don't know, probably Massachusetts. Quebec, well that's your Mexico, and not the new one. And our east coast, I don't know. Someone help me out here.

I don't think we have a California equivalent here.

Oh, come on. That video is so full of fail that even a crazy Liberal has to admit they all look like a bunch of friggin' idiots.

I would like my country to be represented by someone who doesn't allow themselves to look like a complete tool to the rest of the world. Dion just doesn't get it.

Coward McSweatervest, huh...

Sorry, I don't argue with people who use 'clever' cliches instead of actual, valid points of argument. There's really no point.

Kinda like people who call Bush "Chimpy" and still think it's hilarious.

Thank you very much for trying, though. Pick up a complimentary Internet on your way out, with our thanks.
