Is Jerry Dammers part of it? He said he would never reunite and the article doesn't say.

NME has a little more info: (new window)

this is what they say about it:

"Original members of the band including Hall, Neville Staple, Sir Horace Gentleman, Roddy Radiation, Lynval Golding and John Bradbury are all confirmed to play the gigs.

Hall revealed that Specials founder member Jerry Dammers is not set to join the band on the tour, although relations between the two parties are strong. "The door remains open to him," Hall said."

Oh come on Ghost Town was seminal. And I'm talking, like Prince Buster Ten Commandments of Love seminal.

Oh and Gangster was pretty hep. And the whole "jog in place" and still not be mocked for your lack of dance skills was pretty groovy too.

I'm not a ska fan, but the first Specials CD is about as good as an album can be. Everyone song is a keeper. "Too Much Too Young" is a favorite.

Different album, I also like "Rat Race"

No one has ever put out a better album than the Specials' first album.

But... reunion shows suck. Nostalgia sucks. Good on Dammers for staying the hell out of it.

I had that attitude until I saw Richard and The Young Lions at a Cavestomp retro thing-a-ma-bob. They were one of those so called one hit wonders that you hear about that probably just liked making music. But I tell you the lead singer, who was obviously not in good health completely freaking reanimated. The dude fecking rocked like no one I have seen in my life and I used to spend all my free time going to shows/being in shows as a punk rock doofus.

I've never been happier by seeing someone so happy. I know, it's one of those last gasp "you had to be there" things but dude, you HAD to be there.

Bad Brains on a good night will give you that feeling. Don't give up on us geezes so quickly - we may blast you a new hole.

Wow, submitter is a brain-dead 12 year old. Or worse.

Special AKA had a bunch of great songs, and classics to boot. Try:

Message to You Rudy
Ghost Town
Free Nelson Mandela
Too Much Too Young

Seriously, just because you have no brain, no taste, or no memory, does not mean no-one else does.

*facepalm*

I can't believe subby dissed The Specials...they had plenty of great songs(as noted by previous posts...with my ultimate fave being 'Ghost Town')...

Attended high school (except it was called secondary school) in England late '70s/early '80s.

Specials/Madness/Beat/Selector ftw.

Huh? Fun Boy Three was formed by a few of the Specials members after the Specials had broken up. The two bands never worked together.

Or maybe that is what you meant?

Damn. I'd pay to see them in the states, but I guess that's unlikely. On the bright side, the English Beat plays all the time in So Cal so at least I have that as a slight compensation.

THIS.

Whatever the band, long as they're not mailing it in it's all good. Besides, you want the kids to know what the hell Dad was on about with these bands back in the day.

"Specials" didn't do Pressure Drop until the 90's (hence the quotes). The closest thing to a two tone cover of Pressure Drop is The Clash, but for my money the original Toots version is the best.

The few songs they did with Lily Allen at that festival (you know the one) were pretty good, it's a shame they aren't coming stateside.

Damn I hope they come to the States. Their first album is one my all-time most played CDs. Was very into ska in college in the late 80s - Specials, Madness, Bad Manners, Bosstones, Bim Skala Bim, The Toasters etc.. All my friends thought I was weird (I was), then we had a Toronto ska band play live at one of our senior week beerfests, the next day they were all asking me to borrow CDs.

The other day my wife was watching TV, I heard 'Little biatch' playing, I went in the room and it was a scene from Sixteen Candles. Never knew that was in there...

Sorry but they did put out quality albums after their self titled EP. "In Your Face" and "Truth and Soul" were very good albums and "Reality of My Surroundings" was a brilliant album (yes, they were doing more of a hybrid sound at that point)... that being said their albums after that were hit and miss.
